Retrieving Texts From the Android Recycle Bin (2024)

The Android operating system stores text messages in the phone's memory, so if they're deleted, there's no way to retrieve them. You can, however, install a text message backup application from the Android market that allows you to restore any deleted text messages. The backup app will make a copy of the text message files stored on your phone and place the copy on the secure digital card so that it won't be affected by the text app. Then, if you lose an important text or transfer phones, you can retrieve all of your text messages.

  1. 1.

Unlock your Android device and open the application launcher. Find the Market icon and tap it to launch the Android Market. Touch the magnifying glass to open the search bar and then type "SMS Backup" and press "Enter." Tap the name of the app you want to use, for example, SMS Backup & Restore by Techvision, SMS Backup & Restore by Ritesh Sahu and SMS Backup. Tap the blue "Download" button and then tap "Accept & Download." When the application is installed on your device, touch "Open."

  2. 2.

  3. 3.

You can also set the app to keep a continuous record of your text messages by archiving new texts as they come in, that way your backup is always current.

  4. 4.

Touch the "Backup" button in SMS Backup to create the backup file. Tap "Restore" to bring the text messages back. Touch the "Menu" button on your Android and then tap "Setting" on the screen.
