Require verification for purchases - Google Play Help (2024)

Turning on purchase verification helps prevent unauthorized purchases on your device.

If you have turned on verification, you’ll be asked to use biometrics or your Google Account password to verify it’s you each time you make a purchase through Google Play on your device. If needed, you can change or reset your Google Account password.

Biometrics refers to any fingerprint or face models stored on your device. Keep in mind that any biometrics stored on your device can be used for verification. If you share your device and choose biometrics as your verification method, ensure you’re comfortable with all biometrics stored on your device being used for verification.

Important: Purchase verification settings only apply to purchases made through Google Play’s billing system.

Purchase verification in South Korea

Purchase verification on Google Play helps prevent unauthorized purchases on your device. It’s especially important if you share your device with others. Changes in how Google Play users in South Korea verify their purchases through Google Play should be noted below:

  • On your mobile device
    • When you visit the Google Play Store on your mobile device, you’ll verify purchases with the same verification method (e.g. PIN, pattern, password, or biometrics) that you would use to unlock your device, instead of your Google Account password.
    • Your Google Play purchase authentication setting applies to a single device and Google Account. You can change the frequency of authentication anytime in Google Play.
    • If your device supports biometrics (like your face or a fingerprint) to unlock and if you enable that feature, any biometrics stored on the device will also be able to verify your purchases on Google Play. This is important if you have stored biometrics of others to unlock the device, and don't wish to also enable that for purchase verification. In that case, remove any biometrics from your device that you don't want to use for purchase verification, or use another form of device unlock security (like PIN, pattern or password) and do not share it.
    • To find more information, visit Android Help Center to learn how to set screen lock on an Android device.
  • On the web at play.google.com
    • To verify purchases and app installs on the web at play.google.com, you’ll be required to use 2-Step Verification, which helps protect your account. To find more information, visit Google Account Help Center to learn how to turn on 2-Step Verification. Please note that due to security protocols, some users may be required to complete a waiting period after setting up 2-Step Verification before they can use it during transactions on the web at play.google.com. You can change the purchase verification Settings in play.google.com/settings anytime.

Turn verification on or off

Except for your play.google.com settings and certain Google Assistant settings, which apply across devices, verification settings apply only to the active account on the device where you set them. If you use your Google Account on more than one device, repeat the steps below for each device. If you use multiple accounts on your device, repeat the steps below for each account on the device.

Tip: You can help prevent accidental purchases on your device from apps and games available outside of the Family section by turning on purchase verification. In apps or games designed for ages 12 and under, Google Play will re-verify the user before they can buy anything in-app. This helps ensure that the child’s purchase is approved by the financially responsible person.
