Requesting Updates to Your Tax Information (2024)

It’s important to make sure that your tax information on Venmo matches IRS records, so we’re here to help if you need to change the info we have on file.

Please note, not all Venmo users will receive tax documents from us, but you can read more here about what to expect for tax season.

How can I download my tax documents from Venmo?

If we’ve notified you about tax documents for your Venmo profile, you can access and download your tax documents for the previous tax year in your Venmo Tax Document Center after signing in to your account on the Venmo website.

Shortly after the new year begins, we’ll send you an email if you have tax forms available, so please keep an eye on your inbox.

How can I request a correction on my tax document?

Once your tax documents are available, we recommend downloading and reviewing them. If you see a need to make changes to any information on your tax forms, you can request corrections from the Venmo website (not the app).

Here's how:

1. Start by signing in to your Venmo account from a computer’s web browser
2. From the sidebar, select Settings
3. Select Tax Documents
4. Use the dropdown menu to select the relevant tax year
5. Select Make changes next to the document you want to correct
6. Follow the prompts on the next pages to make and submit your changes

After submitting your request, you can expect to receive an update via email within 7 business days.

Please note, we are only able to make changes to your tax information after your documents have been issued. If you haven’t been notified about tax documents issued to you, your Venmo activity likely did not reach reportable thresholds.

I received an email from Venmo asking me to update my tax info

In some cases, Venmo may have incomplete or incorrect details about your tax info. When this happens, we need to correct the tax info associated with your account, so it matches the IRS’s records.

If we’ve contacted you about this, please follow the notification in your Venmo app to update your info. You can also find a link in the email we sent you.

If the legal name populated for your updates does not match your current legal name, a few documents are needed to update your information. Please follow these steps:

1. Download a form W-9 from the IRS website: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf
2. Print and fill out the form with your current/updated information
3. Sign the form

Please also provide a complete picture of one of the following (valid, unexpired) government-issued documents as proof of your identity:

• National ID (front and back)
• Residence Registration card (front and back)
• Driver’s license
• Passport
• Other photo ID issued by a government body

NOTE: ALL of the following information must be visible on the document you provide to update your legal name:

• Photo
• Legal name (first and last)
• Date of birth
• Date of issue or expiry
• Signature
• Document ID Number

Once you’ve gathered those documents, you can send your completed & signed W-9 and identity document to [email protected]. Our Account Specialists will let you know once your info has been updated or if any additional information is required.
