How to recover a deleted file in a shared OneDrive? ›

Click Manage shared drives. (Optional) Click Add a filter, and from Status, select Deleted. Point to a shared drive and click the Restore button. Select a date range for the data restore.

If you're signed in with your personal account, go to Settings->Options. If you're using the work or school account, go to Settings->Restore your OneDrive. Select Restore your OneDrive ->Verify your identity. Select a date and click Restore.

At the end of the time period, the OneDrive remains in a deleted state for 93 days and can only be restored by a SharePoint Administrator.

When users delete files from their shared drives on a Windows server, the files are typically moved to the server's Recycle Bin. There is no recycle bin for network drives. The proverbial bit bucket.

If you have the OneDrive sync app installed on your PC, right-click the file that you want to restore to an earlier version in File Explorer and select Version history. Then select the ellipses (...) next to the version you want and click Restore. The document version you selected becomes the current version.

Normally, when you delete an account, the files in OneDrive are retained for a while, and then deleted completely. You can contact an admin user (usually IT) and ask them to create a link that can access your OneDrive, and then ask other users to download the file directly and re-upload it.

Note: If your recycle bin is full, the oldest items will be automatically deleted after three days.

You may never need to restore your OneDrive, but if lots of your files get deleted, overwritten, or infected by malware, you can restore your entire OneDrive to a previous time. Go to the OneDrive website. At the top of the page, select Settings > Restore your OneDrive from the left navigation.
