OK, how do I start?
It only takes a couple of minutes to start investing with us. You’ll create an Ellevest account and choose an investing goal, then we’ll recommend an investment portfolio and plan based on the personal details you’ve shared with us. Once you make your first deposit, we’ll start investing your money for you. We suggest you turn on recurring deposits, to put your money goals on autopilot. (If you think your financial goals are better served by Private Wealth Management, we would love to help you connect directly with a financial advisor.)
Do I need to meet an investing minimum to become an Ellevest client?
Nope! You can start investing with whatever you have. Our digital investing platform is made for women across financial situations and life stages. (We also offer Private Wealth Management to high and ultra high net worth individuals and institutions. To see if you qualify, we’d love to connect you with an Ellevest financial advisor.)
What is impact investing?
Impact investing is an increasingly popular investing strategy that allows us to pursue competitive market returns while making positive change in the world — because we don’t believe the two goals are mutually exclusive. We do this by directing investments toward companies that meet a certain standard for social and environmental causes (like gender equality, climate justice, and racial equity). At Ellevest, you can opt into an impact portfolio or stick with our core portfolio.
Can I pick the individual stocks in my Ellevest portfolio?
No, we don’t allow our clients to pick stocks. As a fiduciary, we put your best financial interests first. Buying and selling individual stocks is risky; that’s why your personalized, diversified investment portfolio won’t include them. We only use exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and mutual funds — these are curated selections of individual stocks pooled into one entity. When you invest in ETFs rather than individual stocks, you avoid “putting all your eggs in one basket,” so to speak. ETFs have built-in diversification, which means they’re less risky. That’s why we love ‘em so much.
