Here is the only reason Ebay will ever need to justifying the FVF on shipping and tax. You are paying Ebay to give you a forum to sell your trinkets and process payments. For this service Ebay charges a fee. How this fee is determined is up to Ebay NOT you.You do have every right to say this is too high I'm going elsewhere.
The time to make that decision is BEFORE you list. It isALWAYS YOUR responsibilityto understand which of the many many selling platforms available will give you the most amount of money after all expenses in the least amount of time. For some items Ebay is amazing. For other items there are better selling venues.
You sound like a buyer I had a few months ago that whined about how expensive my item was (price + shipping + tax) AFTER delivery. My prices was clearly disclosed and there were other sellers who sold the same item for cheaper (Item condition more used or missing accessories) that they could have bought from. Lucky for me no return was requested and no feedback was received. Phew.
Let me give you another example, my landlord charges me an arm and a leg in rent. I do 99% of the work in running my restaurant while my landlord sends me a Christmascard every year. Do I whine to him about the high rent. No. Would he lower my rent? HA I wish. I can either improve how I run my business in the location I rent OR move to a cheaper area with less foot traffic. I did the math. I still make more money at my current location than I would at a cheaper one with less foot traffic.
