Pogo App Review - Is Pogo Legit & Worth Using? (2024)

These days, reward apps are a dime a dozen. And this is great news if you want to earn rewards for your daily shopping and keep more money in your pocket.

However, many apps aren't as passive as they used to be. This means uploading pictures of receipts, claiming offers, and submitting payment proof to earn your rewards.

Thankfully, the Pogo app is a newer player in the reward app space that's completelypassive. And the best part is it pays you foranytransaction you make and lets you cash out with real money.

But is Pogo legit? And is this app worth using to sell your data for passive income?

I downloaded the app to test it out. And my Pogo review is sharing how it works, the pros and cons, and testimonials from other users so you can decide if this app is right for you.

What Is The Pogo App?

Pogo is a reward app for Android and iOS that lets you “earn and save on everything.” The app's goal is to help its users unlock the power of their data by monetizing every aspect of their shopping.

With Pogo, you earn points for any transaction you make. You can also earn points for sharing your opinion in short online surveys and by sharing your location data.

In a sense, Pogo is trying to put the importance and power of data back in its users' hands; if brands want to use your data, they have to pay for the luxury.

If you're a fan of reward apps but want a more passive earner, the Pogo app is definitely one to keep on your radar.

Is Pogo Legit?

Yes, Pogo is legit and pays you for selling your data and answering surveys. It has a 4.9 average star rating on the app store and there's plenty of positive reviews and payment proof online. And when I tested out the app, it paid me for connecting my cards to the app and shopping.

The company has numerous, well-known investors and backers, including the likes of the COO of Stripe, The Chainsmokers, and the founders of Honey, a very popular shopping extension.

This sort of backing is a positive sign for any company, and Pogo is definitely trying to shake-up the rewards app space.

Just note that this app won't make you rich. It's a nice source of beermoney and passive side hustle, but it's not going to make you hundreds of dollars or replace your job.

How Does Pogo Work?

The Pogo app is only available in the United States at the time of writing. And since you have to connect a credit card to earn with the app, you're probably 18 or older if you're using this app.

But getting started with the app is quite simple and just takes eight steps:

  1. Download Pogo for Android or iOS
  2. Link your bank account to the app
  3. Shop and earn points
  4. Answer in-app surveys
  5. Shop online with Pogo Boosts
  6. Lower your bills
  7. Invite your friends
  8. Cash out

Time to cover these steps in more detail!

1. Link Your Bank To Pogo

Once you download the Pogo app, you link your bank account to the app through its secure connection with Plaid. This is how Pogo can track your transactions and begin paying you for your data.

Plaid is the same connection technology that popular apps like Drop and Dosh use, so it's pretty much an industry standard.

I've been using apps that work with Plaid for years and have never had any privacy issues or concerns. However, know that you're selling your transaction data essentially when you use Pogo.

2. Shop & Earn Points

Once you connect your bank account to Pogo, it's time to get paid to shop! Every time you shop, Pogo pays you with points, and there's no need to upload pictures of your receipts or manually enter transactions.

The fact Pogo doesn't require any work makes it an excellent passive income app. This is also its main selling point versus competitor apps like Fetch Rewards and Receipt Hog.

You normally earn around 2 to 5 points per transaction, which is $0.02 to $0.05 worth of points. As you can see in my screenshot down below, both the Burger King and Williams Chicken purchases paid 2 points.

This is only pennies, but again, Pogo is completely passive, and you earn points on every transaction. In contrast, many reward apps only pay you with points if you shop at specific partners or buy specific products.

So, you can connect your accounts to Pogo, shop, and never worry about forgetting to submit receipts or manually enter a purchase to earn points.

3. Answer In-App Surveys

Another way to earn points with Pogo is to answer short in-app surveys. These are sometimes from brand partners, like Kroger or Walmart, but can also be anonymous surveys for market research purposes.

Surveys pay much more than transactions and can range from a few dozen points to 1,000+ points.

What's nice is that many surveys only take one question or a few minutes, which is shorter than most cash survey sites.

Surveys aren't guaranteed, but they're a nice way to supplement your transaction-based points and cash out faster. Although I will say that in the few weeks I tested out Pogo when I was in the United States, I didn't receive any surveys.

4. Use Pogo Online Boosts

I'm updating my Pogo review because the app now lets you earn bonus cash back using its online boosts feature.

With Pogo boosts, you earn bonus cash back by activating a merchant and then shopping at it online. This is similar to rewards websites like Rakuten, and Pogo works with dozens of merchants like Best Buy, Groupon, Nike, Macy's, Gamestop, Sam's Club, and Walmart.

Cash back usually ranges from 0.5% to 2% from what I've seen. But offers can pay up to 5% to 10% cash back or more depending on the promotion.

Just note that points from Pogo boosts take up to 90 days to deposit in your account. This is because Pogo and the retailer must verify purchases and that you don't make a return before you get paid.

5. Lower Your Bills

One interesting feature of the Pogo app is a section where you can compare your various monthly bills against other providers to try and find a cheaper quote.

All you have to do is sign in to various providers for bills like car insurance, internet bills, phone bills, and other types of insurance. From there, Pogo compares your current rate to rates from other providers to try and find a better deal.

This is really just an insurance quote/comparison tool, and there's plenty of these online.

However, it's nice that Pogo has some different features to help you save more money each month.

6. Earn Location Rewards

Another way to earn passive income with the Pogo app is to enable location rewards. This lets the app track your location through your phone, and when you pass by or enter a partner store, you earn some bonus points.

Pogo calls these data dividends, and it's a nice way to earn money just for sharing your location data. You can also enable a similar feature and get paid bonus points for letting Pogo access your emails to find purchases, although I like this idea much less.

Apps like Shopkick have a similar feature and basically pay you with free points for visiting some of their partners. But if you're out shoppinganyway, this is a great way to maximize your rewards.

You can take this a step further by opting into “data dividends” on Pogo. This lets Pogo serve you more personalized ads and share your data with its research partners, granting you even more points.

Again, you have to be comfortable with selling your transaction and location data for all of this to work. But if you don't mind this, Pogo is a nice way to make money on autopilot.

7. Invite Your Friends

The Pogo referral program pays you with 250 points ($0.25) if you invite someone to join the app and they link their card. The person you invited also receives a 250 bonus.

This referral bonus is a nice way to hit the ground running so you can both reach your first reward a bit faster.

And you can use the Pogo referral code BWW98K if you're signing up for Pogo for the first time.

8. Cash Out

You can cash out your Pogo points for free PayPal money or through Venmo once you earn 3,000 points, which is worth $3. This is on the lower-end of cash out requirements, and many reward apps require $5 to $15 or even more to cash out.

Fetch Rewards is one other competitor with a $3 cash out requirement, but this is one of my favorite aspects of the Pogo app.

And while you can't earn free gift cards with Pogo, PayPal or Venmo payments are much better in my opinion since you're getting paid real money.

Is Pogo Safe?

Yes, the Pogo app is safe, and you can securely link your cards to your account. This is because Pogo uses Plaid toconnect to your bank account and keeps your personal data anonymous and secure.

Plaid is the same solution many leading investment apps and FinTech companies use to safely handle their customer's data. And I've used plenty of apps that use Plaid to access my financial information and have never had any issues.

As Pogo explains, one in four Americans have used Plaid, and it's the solution apps like Acorns, Venmo, and Chime use. And Pogo doesn't have access to your login credentials, only data like the merchants you shop at and how much you spend.

Other Pogo App Reviews

After testing out Pogo for a few weeks while I was in the United States, I think it's a legit passive income app. It doesn't pay very much, and I didn't get any surveys, but you can probably earn $5 to $25 per year with this app on the low end.

That said, one good way to learn if a reward app is worth using or not is to see what other users have to say about it. And in the case of Pogo, the app store reviews are thankfully pretty positive.

Here's what some users are saying in recent Pogo reviews on the Apple app store:

  • S.S Marie says: “I’ve only just downloaded this app earlier this week, but I am a seasoned “rewards” app user. This app is extremely user-friendly and hands down one of the easiest rewards apps to use. All you have to do is connect your debit card(s) and bam you're earning points.”
  • RebeccaAndrea93 says: “Better than Fetch Rewards. Pogo is so easy to use I can’t believe it!!! With this app I just link my card and get rewards on ALL of my purchases automatically.”
  • CursedAuraKT says: “I’ve been using Pogo since the Beta. So far I have $2.58 after about a month. It is still some return for no effort like scanning receipts and doing easy surveys but it doesn’t seem worth it to click at “claim” for a few minutes (depending on purchase history and last time you checked pogo). You need at least $3 to cash out (3,000 points) and most even $60+ purchases max out at 20 points per purchase.”

As you can see, some users love it while one user correctly points out that it really takes a while to accumulate points and cash out. But hey, it's a passive income app, and this is pretty standard.

The app also has a 4.9 star average rating and almost 30,000 reviews, so it's very popular and pretty highly rated.

This pogo app review from YouTuber Real Finance with Heather also provides a great breakdown of how the app works:

I like that Heather points out how you have to be comfortable linking your credit card to Pogo to even use the app, since I think this can be a barrier for some users.

However, Heather likes how passive the app is, and she was able to successfully cash out with Pogo after two months. I'm still testing the app and will update this review if/when I can cash out as well.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Completely passive and doesn't require scanning receipts
  • Pays you points for any purchase
  • Also lets you earn with short surveys and by sharing location data
  • You can cash out for PayPal cash or through Venmo
  • Low cash out requirement

Cons:

  • You have to be comfortable selling and sharing your data
  • Transactions only pay a few pennies worth of points
  • No sign up bonus

The Best Apps Like Pogo

I like Pogo since it's completely passive, which isn't too common these days in the world of reward apps.

However, it definitely doesn't pay as much as some of its competitors. And you can always use Pogo alongside some other reward apps and websites to maximize your rewards.

Some of the best Pogo app alternatives you can use include:

  • Upside: Lets you save up to $0.25 per gallon at thousands of gas stations in the United States.
  • Capital One Shopping: Automatically applies available coupon codes at checkout to help you save money.
  • Bridge Money: Another U.S. app that pays you with passive rewards when you shop with a linked card.
  • Caden: This iOS app also pays you for sharing your data.
  • Fetch Rewards: A leading receipt-scanning app that pays you with free gift cards.
  • Amazon Shopper Panel: Another excellent receipt-scanning app that pays you with free Amazon gift cards.
  • Drop: One of my favorite reward apps that pays you for shopping, playing games, and answering surveys.
  • Dosh: Another way to get paid for doing nothing as you shop for products you already buy everyday.
  • Ibotta: One of my favorite cash-back shopping apps in the United States.
  • NCP Mobile: Another receipt-scanning rewards app that pays you for your data.
  • ReceiptJar: This free app works in North America and Australia.

I also made a video sharing even more of my favorite reward apps that you can use to enjoy some easy, free cash.

Again, Pogo is nice since it's the most passive option out of all of these alternatives. But you can always try out several reward apps to find the ones that save you the most money.

Note: Capital One Shopping compensates us when you sign up with the provided link.

Final Thoughts

I hope our Pogo app review helps you decide if this app is worth using and how all of its features work.

I like that Pogo is going the passive route that many reward apps used to use. And even though it might not pay a lot, a quick $5 to $10 every once in a while never hurts!

Just be sure you're comfortable selling your data since that is what this app really is.
