Philanthropy Roundtable (PR) is a Washington, DC-based national membership association of over 600 individual donors, foundations, and corporate donors. Established in 1992 with the goal 'to build and sustain a vibrant American philanthropic movement that strengthens our free society', PR seeks to influence philanthropy through expert advisory services, working groups, annual meetings, and publications. PR connects donors with leaders and scholars in a variety of fields, as well as with other donors working to accomplish similar ends — facilitating an exchange of ideas and information that helps donors address pressing challenges in a thoughtful and strategic way. Through its public policy arm, the Alliance for Charitable Reform, PR works to promote what it calls philanthropic freedom — the right to choose how and where donors may spend funds — and to defend that right amid legislative or political initiatives that may weaken it. PR's membership and organizational priorities are generally considered conservative, thus providing a useful balance in helping to reach a broad set of policy makers, when necessary, to protect the sector or advocate for beneficial policy change. This award supports PR's general operations.

The Philanthropy Roundtable (the Roundtable) is a Washington, DC-based national membership association of individual donors, foundation trustees and staff, and corporate giving officers. Through conferences, working groups, publications, and private consultations, the Roundtable connects donors with leaders and scholars in a variety of fields, as well as with other donors working to accomplish similar ends—facilitating an exchange of ideas and information that helps donors address pressing challenges in a thoughtful and strategic way. Through its public policy arm, the Alliance for Charitable Reform (ACR), the Roundtable works to promote what it calls philanthropic freedom—the right to choose how and where donors may spend funds—and to defend that right amidst legislative or political initiatives that may weaken it. The Roundtable’s membership is generally considered more conservative overall than the other membership groups supported by the Foundation such as the Independent Sector or Council on Foundations, and its senior staff have past associations (for example, its President, Adam Meyerson, was formerly with the Heritage Foundation), that provide a useful balance in helping to reach a broad set of policy makers when necessary to protect the sector or advocate for beneficial policy change.
