Dungeons are known as palaces in Persona 5 Royal, with the ruler of each having “distorted desires” that lead them down truly vile paths. But as the game goes on and the enemies become stronger and more varied, you’ll do well to rotate party setups to maximize your efficiency inside, meaning you’ll need to know which party is best for each palace in P5R.

We’ve opted out of covering Kamoshida’s Castle for this guide, as the party is set for that dungeon.
Best Party For Madarame's Palace
Madarame's Palace is interesting in that you don't have access to your new party member, Yusuke Kitagawa, until you're halfway through it. After Yusuke joins the Phantom Thieves, the best party for Madarame's Palace becomes Ann, Ryuji, and Yusuke.
This palace also establishes a trend in Persona 5 that the current palace plays into the newest party member's strengths — so naturally, it plays well into Yusuke's.
Best Party For Madarame's Palace
Party Member | Strength for Madarame's Museum |
---|---|
Yusuke | Ice attacks that have a chance to freeze enemies. Many shadows ahead are weak to his ice attacks. |
Ryuji | Good physical skills that do a lot of damage without consuming SP. Many shadows ahead are weak to his electric attacks. |
Ann | Primary healer and support. A few shadows are weak to her fire skills. Debuffing enemies, which will be of huge help during the Madarame boss fight |
Swap out for Yusuke as soon as you're able to earn the best party for Madarame's Palace in Persona 5 Royal.
Best Party For Kaneshiro's Palace
Kaneshiro's Bank of Gluttony introduces a true powerhouse of a party member in Makoto Niijima. With her nuclear skills, which were new to Persona 5, Makoto makes a great addition to the team, especially here.
Round out the party with Morgana and Ryuji for the easiest time in Kaneshiro's Bank.
Best Party For Kaneshiro's Palace
Party Member | Strength for Kaneshiro's Bank |
---|---|
Makoto | Nuclear skills, which is one of the primary weaknesses for the shadows in Kaneshiro's Bank Palace Her nuclear skills can deal bonus damage to burned shadows. Good physical attacks when she's low on SP. Backup healer if Morgana's SP is low. |
Morgana | Primary healer and support. Lucky Punch has a higher chance of landing critical hits, which is helpful for shadows without weaknesses. |
Ryuji | Good physical skills to conserve his SP as needed. Several shadows ahead are weak to his electric skills. Electric moves have a chance to inflict shock onto enemies. |
This palace is long and requires plenty of stealth, so be on your toes throughout.

Best Party For Futaba's Palace
Things start to get tough in Futaba's Palace, as there are many enemies that have few to no weaknesses, and additionally, this is your longest palace to this point.
There is a lot of elemental coverage that you're able to handle on your own with Joker's stock of Personas, so the best team for versatility in the rest of your coverage would be Morgana, Makoto, and Yusuke.
Best Party For Futaba's Palace
Party Member | Strength for Futaba's Pyramid |
---|---|
Makoto | Nuclear skills to exploit the shadows weak to nuclear in the palace. Buff moves to increase party members' defense. Physical skills that cost HP instead, should she run low on SP. |
Yusuke | Ice skills are pivotal against certain enemies inside the Pyramid. Buff moves to increase the party's evasiveness. |
Morgana | Healer(full-party and individual moves) |
You've got plenty of puzzles to solve and tough fights to win throughout each level of Futaba's Pyramid, but beating it in the time limit unlocks a brand-new navigation expert with Futaba.
Best Party For Okumura's Palace
Okumura's Spaceport is far from most players' favorite palace in Persona 5 Royal, due in large part to how complicated and unforgiving it can be if you're under-prepared, but Haru Okumura joining the team gives access to your final type of magic - Psio.
Truly, all party members may be tough to use here on account of the wide range of affinities, the longer length of the palace, and some rather cruel mini-bosses that all lead to a timed final boss fight.
For the easiest time, we'd suggest bringing Haru, Makoto, and Morgana.
Best Party For Okumura's Palace
Party Member | Strength for Okumura's Spaceport |
---|---|
Haru | Psio skills are strong against several of the shadows ahead. Her grenade launcher is a multi-target physical attack that does not consume HP or SP. |
Makoto | Nuclear skills are usually pretty effective against enemies that repel physical attacks. Remove debuffs to keep the party in optimal shape. |
Morgana | Wind skills can help against the cardholder robots. Healing magic is something of a must in a palace this long. |
You need to plan carefully for several of the boss fights in Okumura's Palace, as their affinities are limited and their attacks are strong.

Best Party For Sae's Palace
Finally, you're about to finish circling back to the beginning of the story and will catch up with the present day once you finish Sae's Casino.
Goro Akechi has joined the Phantom Thieves for this infiltration, and his skills are of great help in the fights ahead. Just try not to think of all the stuff that's happened with him so far...
Colorful, bright, and jam-packed with tough shadows and difficult mini-games, your best bet for party members for Sae's casino are Akechi, Makoto, and Ann.
Best Party For Niijima's Palace
Party Member | Strength for Sae's Casino |
---|---|
Akechi | Both light and dark skills are in Akechi's roster, and plenty of the shadows in the palace are weak to one, if not both, of these elements. Few weaknesses of his own Decent physical damage output if you're low on SP. |
Makoto | Though there aren't many shadows weak to it, her nuclear skills can come in handy in a pinch, especially when coupled with Ann's fire magic Removing debuffs from the party during battle. Backup healer should Ann be low on SP. |
Ann | Primary healer(she'll certainly have multi-target healing spells by now) Her fire skills are becoming quite strong by now, and can leave enemies with a Burn. Lower the enemy's attack stat with her debuff moves. |
There are several twists to Sae's Palace, including the part where Joker is without any support from the Phantom Thieves, so plan ahead for the palace!
Best Party For Shido's Palace
As the game's primary antagonist to now, Shido's Palace might be a frustrating one, but it's oh-so satisfying to finally finish.
This is a palace that will absolutely test both your endurance and patience as you make your way through not only as human Phantom Thieves but, interestingly enough, sometimes also as mice.
Calling on old faithful teammates for the slog ahead, we went with Ryuji, Haru, and Makoto.
Best Party For Shido's Palace
Party Member | Strength for Shido's Cruiseliner |
---|---|
Ryuji | His electric skills that can inflict shock go a far way in the palace. His physical attacks will be some of the best by this point in the game. Buffs that increase the party's attack. |
Haru | Psio skills are effective against a wide swath of shadows. Her grenade launcher is a massive help for tough physical enemies. |
Makoto | Primary healer. Buffs that increase the party's defense. |
You'll face several mini-boss fights in this palace, so come prepared.

We look at how long it takes to play through all the content Persona 5 Royal has to offer.
Best Party For The Depths Of Mementos
The final palace of the main Persona 5 game is also the toughest, as you have to clear it all in one day.
Everything you learned in the game will be put to the test, so it should be no surprise that part of the challenge comes from optimizing the party.
For The Depths, we brought Ann, Yusuke, and Makoto.
Best Party For The Depths Of Mementos
Party Member | Strength for The Depths |
---|---|
Ann | Many shadows are weak to her impressive fire skills. Backup healing capabilities, should anything happen to Makoto. |
Yusuke | His ice skills can handle a large portion of the shadows ahead. His physical damage has gotten much better, making him a viable striker. |
Makoto | Primary healer. Buffs that increase the party's defense. Plenty of good nuclear skills if she needs to go on the offensive as well. |
Not only do you have several puzzles to solve, but the end-game enemies are notedly strong, so it may be good to train in Mementos before heading down for the final fight.
Best Party For Maruki's Palace
Exclusive to Persona 5 Royal and requiring some specific steps throughout the course of P5R to unlock, the final palace belongs to Dr. Maruki.
With everything on the line here in the final dungeon of the game, we recommend bringing Sumire, Akechi, and Makoto along for the ride.
Best Party For Maruki's Palace
Party Member | Strength for Maruki's Laboratory |
---|---|
Sumire | She has better Bless skills than Akechi, with access to Makougaon. Backup healer. |
Akechi | Relegate Akechi to dark skills, now that Sumire can tackle all things Bless. His dark magic has gotten better since the last time you fought with him. His Debilitate skill can severely lower foes' attack, defense, and agility. |
Makoto | Primary healer. Buffs that increase the party's defense. Plenty of good nuclear magic and physical attacks if she needs to go on the offensive as well. |
It requires plenty of work to access and even more to press through, but this setup is the best team for Maruki's Palace in Persona 5 Royal.
