Nvidia Passes Microsoft to Become Largest Company by Market Cap
Nvidia became the largest company by market capitalization on Tuesday, overtaking Microsoft.
Nvidia stock was up 3.2%, and its market cap was up to $3.326 trillion. That compares to Microsoft’s recent market cap of $3.323 trillion.
Microsoft, Apple, Amazon.com, Exxon Mobil, and General Electric are the only companies that have held this title since 2001, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
Apple has held the title for the longest period of time during that span. Amazon held it for 13 trading days in early 2019.
Surging demand from artificial intelligence firms has sent Nvidia's profit soaring in recent quarters. The stock has more than tripled in the past 12 months.
