The total budget expenditure of the central government in Norway was set to 1,88 trillion Norwegian kroner for 2024. The state's operating costs were estimated to be 246 billion Norwegian kroner, with wages and salaries to individuals working for the state set to 117 billion Norwegian kroner. The largest budgetary item, however, was the payment of pension benefits and other national social insurance payments paid to citizens for instance due to sickness, injuries, pregnancy, giving birth, unemployment, retirement, or due to a single parent.
