What does drone no fly zone mean? ›

A No Drone Zone sign lets you know that taking off or landing your drone from the designated area is not allowed, per local restrictions.

If you're thinking about flying your drone in a no-drone zone, you need to be aware of the potential legal consequences. Violating these restricted areas can result in hefty fines, criminal charges, and serious consequences for the safety of the airspace.

As a private citizen, you cannot unilaterally declare your property a no-fly zone. However, you can petition the FAA to recognize the airspace for restriction, though it is unlikely to bore fruitful results. These petitions are typically approved for entities like airports or government facilities.

By default, GEO limits flights into or taking off within zones that raise safety or security concerns. If a flight within one of these locations has been authorized, GEO allows users with verified DJI accounts to temporarily unlock or self-authorize their flights.

You should first contact the person controlling the drone and ask them to stop flying it over your property. In most cases, they will stop the conduct right away when they realize that it bothers you. If that does not work, you can raise a private nuisance claim.

Are drone jammers legal? Drone jammers are not legal in the US per FCC regulations. "The use of "cell jammers" or similar devices designed to intentionally block, jam, or interfere with authorized radio communications (signal blockers, GPS jammers, or text stoppers, etc.) is a violation of federal law.

All drones must be registered, except those that weigh 0.55 pounds or less (less than 250 grams) and are flown under the Exception for Limited Recreational Operations. Drones registered under the Exception for Limited Recreational Operations cannot be flown under Part 107.

Drone (UAS) geographical zones

Geo-zones are portions of airspace where drones, or to use the more official term Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), operations are facilitated, restricted or excluded.

Drones fly away when the radio signal between the controller and drone has been disrupted. This could be caused by an interfering external source such as a WiFi signal or nearby metal structure. Once the connection is lost, a drone doesn't know what to do next and in most cases will control itself.
