Why does my Netflix think I'm using a VPN? ›

It means your device or network connects to Netflix through a VPN or proxy service. VPNs can change or hide your internet location, which may cause issues. To continue watching, turn off any active VPNs. You can't use a VPN while watching a live event on Netflix or with an ad-supported plan.

If the country doesn't match your current location, it usually means your device or network has a VPN turned on. To get the steps to turn a VPN off, contact the VPN provider, your internet service provider, or your network's administrator.

Most VPNs come with a software program or app from which you can manage the VPN. If you're using a Windows, Mac, Android, or iOS VPN, simply launch the VPN software and click, tap, or toggle the same button you used to enable it. The button might read Disconnect, Turn Off, or Stop, or it might just be a power icon.

Proxy servers serve as a "middleman" between a user and the web. They hide the user's IP address from a web server the user visits, but it does not secure the data that is sent and received. A VPN takes this process a step further. It hides the user's IP address and location so they cannot be identified.

Select the Start button, then select Settings > Network & Internet > VPN. Select the VPN connection, then select Advanced options. Under VPN proxy settings, select the type of proxy setup you want to use, then enter the proxy server information for that VPN connection.
