Netflix Household
To avoid password sharing, Netflix has come up with a policy that restricts users to using a Netflix plan only within their household. Here’s everything you need to know about ‘Netflix Household’:
- With an aim to increase its subscriber base, ‘Netflix Household‘ is a strategy that prevents non-family users from watching shows and movies from a single account.
- To make this work, Netflix will use information such as IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity to determine if a device is part of your household. Currently, this is restricted just to TVs.
- Users will be prompted to set up Netflix Household from their primary device and then only those devices can run the same Netflix plan which is connected to the home’s WiFi.
- Those who are outside the household and have signed in to the Netflix account will get a notification when they try to log in that prompts them to create their own account.
- While the device in a household can be used outside, it needs to be connected to the same internet connection at least once a month. Failing to do so will disconnect the device from the plan.

How to choose the right Netflix plan
- If you are a casual Netflix user, you can choose the Standard Netflix plan and stream it on up to 2 devices.
- However, if you want to save more, you can go with the Basic plan (1 device, 720P quality, big screen devices included).
- If you are fine consuming only on mobile, then choose the Mobile plan.

How to change Netflix subscription plans
Step 1: Launch the Netflix App on your phone or visit the Netflix webpage on your browser.
Step 2: Sign in with your account details, if you haven’t.
Step 3: Choose/ hover over the profile icon in the top right corner.
Step 4: Select Account.
Step 5: Now under the Plan Details, select Change Plan. If your account is on hold, no plan changes can be made until the hold is resolved.
Step 6: Then choose the desired plan, then select Continue or Update.
Step 7: Finally, select Confirm Change or Confirm.
How can I cancel Netflix subscription plans
You cancancel the Netflix subscription within the app’s settings anytime you want.
Step 1:Open Netflix.
Step 2:Tap the hamburger menu on mobile or the profile icon on the web.
Step 3: Go to Accounts.
Step 4: Go to Membership & Billing or Membership section.
Step 5: Tap on Cancel membership option. And tap the blue button to confirm.

Does Netflix offer a free trial?
Netflix doesn’t offer a free trial to new users anymore, even though that was the case earlier. You will need to pay the price of the subscription to check out the catalogue and the experience. Of course, you will also need to share your banking details to avail the free trial. Since this makes the first-time usage a subscription plan and not a free trial, you can choose to cancel the subscription within the first month if you do not enjoy the content.
What is Netflix’s free upgrade offer?
Netflix is also offering a free upgrade offer to first-time subscribers in India. Under this plan, all new subscribers are upgraded to a higher-tier plan for free for the first 30 days. After 30 days, the subscription is reverted to the original plan if the customer doesn’t change their plan.
For example, if you subscribe to the “Standard” plan that costs Rs 499/month, you will automatically receive the benefits of the “Premium” plan that costs Rs 649 for the first 30 days.
