MAGNETIC RESONANCE (MR / MRG)
In today’s World, Magnetic Resonance (MR/ MRG) is a radiation-free imaging technology used for especially imaging of soft tissues with the help of radio-waves within the magnetic field. MR/MRG is used for diagnosis. There is no recorded harm of MR Imaging on the living organisms up to this time.
Some MR Imaging tests are made with coils. Also, if needed, contrast agents – IV medicines given through transfusion- can be used.
The MR Machine in GOFİCS, 1.5 Tesla Siemens Area with its 70 cm diameter and 1.45 m short system design, provides high comfort to the patient. With this patient-friendly system which enables the claustrophobic or overweight/obese patients (up to 200 kg’s) to have an MRI scan easily, the time of scanning is also shorter.
Medical examinations made with MRI:
- Brain MRI, MR Spectroscopy
- Diffusion MR
- Breast MR
- Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)
- Enterograph
- Spinal Column Examinations: cervical, trocal, lomber and sacral MRI
- Dynamic Liver, Pancreas, Abdomen MRI, Multi-parametric Prostate, Pelvis MRI
- Orthopedic Examinations: Knee, Wrist, Hand-Foot, Ankle, Elbow, Shoulder, Hip Joint
- MRCP (Cholangiography)
- Angiographies: Brain MR Angiography, Cartid MR Angiography, Renal Angiography
The time of the scanning depends on the type of the examination, usually takes 15 to 40 minutes. The patient is asked to stay motionless during the scan, otherwise, moving causes the images to degrade and the scan will be remade which results in the scanning taking more time.
Important warning:
During the first three months of pregnancy, MRI is not preferable unless it is truly necessity.
Also, patients and patient relatives with cardiac pacemakers, heart valve implants, cochlear implants, or bullet, shot, metal piece or sharpnel within their bodies upon no account can enter the MRI room.
