Does Lowes donate to Eagle Scout projects? ›

Consider it giving back to those who give back. Lowe's, the home-improvement giant with more than 1,700 stores, has teamed up with the BSA and local Scout councils to give selected Eagle Scout candidates a $100 prepaid gift card to be used toward their service projects.

Although not a hard rule, Eagle candidates and their families are not supposed to pay for Eagle projects – even if the family is financially well off.

Requirement #6 - Attach to this application a statement of your ambitions and life purpose and a listing of positions held in your religious institution, school, camp, community, or other organizations during which you demonstrated leadership skills. Include honors and awards received during this service.

The candidate must furnish a list of prospective donors with their fundraising application, per National policy, for Council approval before soliciting the material donations or discounts. Candidates may also hold fundraising events, such as car washes, meat stick sales, and the like, with an approved application.

Not every boy who joins a Boy Scout troop earns the Eagle Scout rank. In fact, only 4 percent of all Boy Scouts do so. More than 1.2 million Boy Scouts have earned the rank since 1911, and they make up only 0.512% of the U.S. male population.

Your Eagle Scout rank shows admissions committees your ability to commit long-term, that you possess positive character traits, and you have multiple transferable skills to help you through the college experience.

Funding the Project

Eagle service projects often require fundraising. Donations of any money, materials, or services must be preapproved by the BSA unless provided by your organization; by the Scout or the Scout's parents or relatives; or by the Scout's unit or its chartered organization.

Unless you're very close to the Eagle Scout, your gift would typically be no more than $50. Many of the gift items mentioned earlier would cost anywhere from $20-$50. However, if you're giving cash or gift cards, the customary amount is between $10 and $25.

This must be a project that will benefit a school, community, or religious group other than the Scouts, BSA. It must demonstrate the Scout's ability to plan, budget time and money, direct, and give leadership to others.
