Louisiana GO Grant Policy for 2020-2021

GO Grant is a state program administered by the Louisiana Office of Student financial Assistance (LOSFA) in accordance with the approved program and a memorandum of understanding by and between the Louisiana Board of Regents and the Louisiana Student Financial Assistance Commission. The Louisiana GO Grant assists those students who can demonstrate financial need to pay for the cost of postsecondary education. The GO Grant is used to pay a portion of the cost of attendance at an eligible Louisiana postsecondary institution.

Important information concerning COVID-19 and CARES Act

For the 2020-2021 academic year, the 60% methodology for calculating GO Grant awards will remain in effect; however, the Board of Regents has determined that CARES Act funding provided directly to students shall be excluded from this calculation.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for a Louisiana Go Grant, a student must:

Student is a Louisiana resident as of the date of the FAFSA completion.
Student has a current, completed FAFSA on file.
Student is eligible for the Federal Pell Grant for the aid year.
Student has remaining financial need after deducting all federal/state/institutional awards and all other gift aid from the student’s calculated need (CoA – EFC X 60%).
Student must be enrolled at an eligible institution on at least a half-time basis.
Student is meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
Student has remaining GO Grant eligibility (as determined by LOSFA)

Awarding GO Grant:

Student must be a Pell Grant recipient.
Student must be a Louisiana resident.
Student must have need following the formula provided in the GO Grant Framework (CoA-EFC) X 60%. Priority is given to students with highest remaining need greater than 60%.
GO Grant can be awarded through packaging process and/or on a case by case basis by running a report to identify qualifying students.
GO Grants are awarded on a priority basis for students 25 years old or over.
Transfer students’ eligibility will be determined the same as first time and continuing students.

Award Amounts:

Award amounts to eligible students are based on the institution’s allocation each aid year, which may vary. The maximum and minimum annual award amounts for the 2020-2021 Academic Year:

Shortfalls in Funding:

During any year a shortfall in funding exists, the university will award students on a first-come, first-serve basis. Funds will continue to be awarded up to the allocation provided by LOSFA.

*Less than Full Time Student would be a student who is enrolled in 11 credits or fewer per term, as of the census date. Students enrolled less than half time as of the census date will not be considered for the program. Five credit hours or less is considered less than half-time for an undergraduate student.

*Residency:

Louisiana resident as of the day the FAFSA is filed and Louisiana is the student's true and fixed domicile as reported on the FAFSA. If student's state of residence on the FAFSA is not reported as LA, but a dependent student claims that a non-custodial parent is a Louisiana resident, or that parents are Louisiana residents living out of state, LOSFA will determine residency based on the completion, by the parents, of a residency affidavit.
