This page lists basic CLI commands needed to work with directories and files on an ISU HPC cluster. These commands are described in more details at the end of the guide.
cd foldername– Change the working directory to foldername cd - Return to $HOME directory cd .. - Go up a directory cd - - Return to the previous directory
emacs, nano, vi – File editors
cp sourcedestination– Copy source to destination cp -r sourcedestination– Copy a directory recursively from source to destination
mv source destination- Move (or rename) a file from source to destination
rm file1- Remove file1 rm -r folder- Remove a directory and its contents recursively
cat file– Print contents of file on the screen less file- View and paginate file head file- Show first 10 lines of file tail file- Show last 10 lines of file

System commands are encoded as part of the operating system. Executable programs run text-based or graphical applications. Batch programs are text files that list a sequence of commands.
A single command ( <magento_root>/bin/magento list ) lists all available installation and configuration commands. Consistent user interface based on Symfony. The CLI is extensible so third-party developers can “plug in” to it.
How to Check Commands in CMD. Open the Command Prompt program on your computer. Type in "Help" when the window appears and hit Enter to pull up a list of all the available commands. To learn how a specific command works, type "help" followed by the command for more details.
The Windows operating system features over 280 commands for CMD (Command Prompt). Some commands are specific to Windows servers, while others are available for desktop versions. In both cases, CMD commands communicate directly with the OS and allow to perform various IT automation tasks.
A command-line interface (CLI) is a means of interacting with a computer program by inputting lines of text called command-lines. Command-line interfaces emerged in the mid-1960s, on computer terminals, as an interactive and more user-friendly alternative to the non-interactive interface available with punched cards.
In conclusion, CLI and GUI are different interfaces used to interact with a computer system. CLI provides greater control and efficiency but may be less user-friendly and accessible. GUI, on the other hand, is more intuitive and user-friendly but may be less efficient and have less control over the system.
