Plant Swap at the Jackson Branch

Calling all local plant lovers! Come hang out with us,meet other plant parents, and exchange plant clippings, full plants, orseeds on Saturday, March 16th from 10 AM to 11:30 AM at the Larry R. Jackson Branch Library. Registration is required.

To be sure everyone has a great experience, we ask that you do the following:

    1. Bring only healthy, pest-free plants.Check your plants and soil for pests and disease before you bring them.
    2. Bring at least one plant, cutting or seed pack to trade. The more you bring, the more you can go home with, but you must have something to trade to participate in the swap.
    3. Label all plants, cuttings, and seeds. All swapped items must be labeled with the type of plant and care instructions.
    4. Plants/cuttings must be in a container, able to transport.Plants being swapped must be in a pot you are willing to part with. Cuttings should be wrapped in a wet paper towel and placed in a ziploc bag.
    5. Bring a box or container to take your new plants home. This is the perfect time to use that pile of totes or un-broken down boxes.
    6. Trades and giveaways only, no selling. No buying/selling of plants among participants will be allowed. The purpose of the plant swap is to increase your plant collection and meet other plant parents.

Register for the Plant Swap beginning Saturday, February 24th at 10 AM

    PCLC Libraries App Available

Good news! Our original Polk County Library Cooperative (PCLC) Libraries app is working once again and is available for use while we continue the process of replacing it with a new library app.

If you still have the app installed on your device, you should now be able to log in and resume use with accurate, up-to-date information about your checkouts and holds. If you removed the app from your device, it is currently available in the Apple store and should be available in the Google and Android stores in the next few days.

We are continuing to work with our vendor on our new, next-generation library app. When it is released, the new app will seamlessly upgrade and replace the PCLC Libraries app on any devices where it is already installed.

Lakeland History & Culture Center Lecture Series

Join us at the Lakeland Public Library on Thursday, March 21st at 5:30 PM as Special Collections Librarian Supervisor LuAnn Mims presents the story of Ruth Elder, a pilot and actress who was also known as "Miss America of Aviation."

Ruth Elder was the first woman to attempt a flight across the Atlantic from the United States to Europe, just five months after Charles Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic. Her airplane was a new Stinson 'Detroiter' - a single-engine, high-wing monoplane - that she called “American Girl.” On October 11, 1927, she and her co-pilot, Captain George Haldeman, took off for Paris from Roosevelt Field on Long Island, New York. The duo trained in Lakeland for this adventure and created a media stir leading up to their departure.

Find out more information about "Ruth Elder: American Girl."No registration is required.

This event is made possible by Geico Philanthropic Foundation.
