Level caps are a mechanic in Pokémon Reborn that limits the maximum level of Pokémon the player can use at a certain point of the game. Unlike the level cap mechanic in the main series games, it applies to all Pokémon, not just traded ones. This helps maintain a certain level of difficulty and to discourage overlevelling as a method to get through battles.

Mechanics[]
If a Pokémon reaches a level above the current level cap through any means, it becomes 'disobedient' from the next battle until its level is below the current level cap again.
Disobedience[]
When a Pokémon is disobedient, it has a certain chance of not listening to its Trainer's commands each turn in battle. This chance can be calculated as:
[For Pokémon exactly 1 level above the level cap, the chances of not listening range from 48.83% (at Level 21) to 50.00% (at the highest level).]
A disobeying Pokémon on its turn will usually simply not carry out any move, but it also has a small chance of going to sleep (unless it already has a major status condition, an uproar is occurring, or it has the ability Vital Spirit or Insomnia) or inflicting confusion damage to itself.
If a Pokémon is determined to be disobedient and was commanded to use Snore or Sleep Talk while asleep, it will ignore orders and do nothing; if it was commanded to use Rage, the effect of Rage immediately ends.
Managing Pokémon's levels[]
Common Candy is a new item that can be used on a Pokémon to reduce its level by 1. They do not cause Pokémon to revert back to a previous evolution stage, so for example, it is possible to have a Level 35 Charizard.
Exp. Candies do not raise the EXP of a Pokémon beyond the level cap, and will fail if used on a Pokémon already at or above the level cap. Rare Candies do not have this restriction, however.
There are two methods that can be used to prevent Pokémon from gaining EXP if they are at the current level cap:
- Using the 'hardcap' password
- Turning ON the Exp. All (key item)
The 'hardcap' password still allows the Pokémon to be levelled up beyond the level cap through Rare Candies, but not through the Day-Care. The Exp. All only affects battles, so it allows both Rare Candies and the Day-Care.
Level Caps by Story Progression[]
Main Game[]
At the beginning of the game, the level cap is Level 20. It increases gradually as the player earns more Gym badges. The maximum level cap in main game is level 100, and Pokemon cannot level up past this cap, even with Rare Candies.
The badges that raise the level cap are listed below.
Gym Badge | Level Cap Raised To |
---|---|
Badge 01 | 25 |
Badge 02 | 35 |
Badge 03 | 40 |

Postgame[]
The postgame is made up of 'tiers' that contain some number of quests each. The level cap is increased by 5 as the player reaches new tiers. The player starts the Postgame at Tier 0 and at level cap 105. Pokemon cannot level up past the level cap of the player's current tier, even with Rare Candies.
The tiers which raise the level cap are listed below.

---|---|
Tier 0 | 105 |
Tier 1 | 110 |
Tier 2 | 115 |
