What to write in a table legend? ›

It should include information on important aspects such as description (the type of experiment), method or technique used (sample size, type of animal model used, conditions examined, etc.), and the result obtained (p-value). Captions should be written in a complete sentence, starting with conventional capitalization.

An effective legend is the key to help a figure stand alone. The title should describe what the figure is about. The methods include all (and no more than) the necessary details to understand the figure without referring back to the body text. The results show the key findings as seen in the figure.

A figure legend is a chunk of text that accompanies each figure in a laboratory report. Its purpose is to explain the figure clearly and thoroughly, providing readers with all the information necessary to understand the figure without returning to the main text of the lab report.

Is a table a figure? ›

The term “table” describes any tabulated data. If you have information organized into columns and rows, it should be designated as a table. The term “figure” describes photographs, charts, maps, graphs, drawings, diagrams, or any other non-text material.

Table legends are placed above any table and generally placed in left alignment. These are usually read top-down, e.g., Table 5. A figure legend concludes with a period only, neither a colon, semi-colon, nor a comma, e.g., Figure ABC., and should not exceed 350 words.

The phrase "the stuff of legends" is correct and usable in written English. It generally means something extraordinary, remarkable, or out of the ordinary, usually in a positive way. For example: "Her incredible accomplishments throughout her career have made her the stuff of legends.".

In web development, the <legend> element is used in HTML forms to provide a caption or a title for the associated <fieldset> element. It helps to visually group and describe the related form input elements within the fieldset.
