How does it work?

How does Coinstar work?

Cashing in your loose change at Coinstar is easy. Just pour your coins into the kiosk and let us do the work.

  1. Choose one of our three convenient options: get cash, which has an 11.9% fee (fees may vary by location), select a NO FEE eGift Card, or make a donation to your favorite charity.
  2. Please make sure your coins are clean and dry, and that you have removed dirt, debris, and other objects that might jam the coin tray or interfere with the counting process. Add coins to the tray. Lift the handle, and guide your coins into the slot.
  3. Check the return tray for any rejected coins. When all your coins have been counted, you’ll receive a paper voucher for cash, or an eGift Card, which has a unique code printed at the top. If you chose charity, you’ll receive a receipt for your donation.
  4. If you chose cash, take your voucher to the cashier. Please be sure to redeem your cash voucher on the same day it was issued. If you selected an eGift Card, you can use the unique code printed at the top of the voucher anytime to shop at the retail store, restaurant or online. If you donated your coins, keep the receipt for your records.
