Leaked Google pay data shows how much thousands of employees report making in units like Cloud, engineering, and sales (2024)

The spreadsheet, obtained by Insider, includes data voluntarily submitted by over 12,000 US employees for the full year 2022. It covers many roles, including software engineers, business analysts, and salespeople.

Insider analyzed the entire dataset and built a table of searchable roles with data on salary and, where submitted, equity and bonuses. The table shows the minimum and maximum base salaries, equity, and bonuses for each role.

In addition, Insider created bar graphs that show the highest base salaries each role can make, as well as the roles at Google that have the highest base salaries, equity, and bonuses. These graphs are based on the maximum base salary, equity, and bonus values that were submitted for each role.

Google equity is given to employees in the form of restricted stock units, which can significantly boost their total compensation. Not all employees submitted equity and bonus data.

A few caveats to note: The data is taken for US full-time employees only. The data also does not include salaries for employees in Alphabet's Other Bets, such as Waymo and Verily.

Employees who had been at the company longer and worked at a higher level tended to have higher salaries. The highest-paid software engineer in the data reported being a level 7 employee who made a base salary of $718,000. Most software engineers on the sheet reported making between $100,000 and $375,000.

"We provide top-of-market compensation to our workforce, across salary, equity, leave, and a suite of benefits," Tamani Jayasinghe, a Google spokesperson, said in a statement.
