Lagos the Archon (died c. 428 BCE) was a Greek politician during the 5th century BCE and a high-ranking member of the Peloponnesian League branch of the Cult of Kosmos active in Arkadia during the Peloponnesian War.

Biography[]
An Arkadian farm owner, Lagos rose to become the leader of the region during the 5th century BCE, his wife Philonoe and his son Niloxenos beside him while he kept the "breadbasket of Peloponnese" full.[1]
Friendship with Brasidas[]
When the soldiers serving under the Spartan general Brasidas were starving, Lagos managed to get supplies to them. Whether their friendship began before or after this incident is unknown, but this deed made enough of an impression on Brasidas that he reminisced about it years later during the Peloponnesian War.[2] The two kept in contact throughout the years and grew close, with Brasidas even referring to Lagos as a "dear friend." In turn, Lagos mentioned how Kassandra's words upon their meeting reminded him of Brasidas when he was her age.[3]
Due to this friendship and Lagos' aid, Brasidas wanted to free Lagos from the Cult of Kosmos' grasp when he came to Arkadia with Myrrine and her daughter, the Spartan misthios Kassandra around 428 BCE.[1]
Cult of Kosmos[]
Due to his influential position, Lagos was approached by the Cult of Kosmos sometime before the Peloponnesian War. He first considered them merely as 'business partners',[4] but eventually they showed their true colors. The Sage of the Peloponnesian League branch of the Cult, Pausanias, targeted Lagos' family, and threatened them with torture and death unless Lagos' did as he was told.[5] As a reminder of this, and proof of where Lagos' loyalties should lie, Pausanias gave him his ring.[3]
When the Cult met for the first time after quite a while at the Sanctuary of Kosmos beneath the Sanctuary of Delphi in Phokis around 431 BCE, Lagos was there as well as Pausanias. The Spartan king used the opportunity to remind Lagos of his duty to him, and Kassandra overheard them, though at the time she didn't know who they were.[5][6]
The Peloponnesian War[]
Following the meeting the Cultists returned to their posts. Pausanias had Lagos' family placed under guard, and then taken to their hideout within the Golden Fields of Arkadia.[4] A servant who was with them was later separated and brought to the Scorched Tree in the area.[2]
After rumors spread of the 'Eagle-Bearer' hunting the Cultists, Lagos locked himself within Fort Samikon, while a bounty was placed in his name on both Kassandra as well as her mother Myrrine.[1] Despite the bounty hunters chasing her, Kassandra was able to track Lagos to the Fort, and she infiltrated it and faced him.[3]
Personality[]
Lagos was considered a benevolent pacifist for whom placing bounties and using threats was out of character.[1] His family was everything to him, and by threatening their welfare Lagos could be forced to do anything.[5] He also had dignity, facing death "as Spartans do."[3]
Influence[]
Respected among the people of Arkadia, rumors still spread about Lagos, as well as the Cult of Kosmos, even among the common populace of Greece. One of the rumours concerning Lagos was that he had sold his soul to the Greek goddess Demeter in order to ensure Arkadia's prosperity.[7] Another revealed that the Cult's manipulation of Lagos had scared others as well, as a bounty was offered for a member of the Followers of Ares, because "if a man like Lagos can be manipulated because Cultists have his family, none of us are safe from zealots!"[8]
Behind the scenes[]
The name of Lagos, a character in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, is a name derived from the Greek word λαγῶς (lagos) meaning 'hare', and thus colloquially 'coward'.
If the Monger is slain in the Sacred Cave as Brasidas requested, Lagos offers up decisive evidence on the Peloponnesian League's Sage and leaves the Cult. If the Monger was killed at the theater, Lagos won't believe the Eagle Bearer and will fight them to the death instead. An alternate clue to the Sage's identity is a letter sent to Stentor, Nikolaos' adopted son. In the Assassin's Creed: Odyssey novel, Lagos is killed by Myrrine and is the 36th of the 42 Cultists to die.
If Lagos is approached before the quest Gluten Free is done, he can be found wandering around Fort Samikon. After said quest is done, he will be locked behind a door, and cannot be approached without triggering the cutscene.
If Lagos is spared in Judge, Jury, Executioner, he will roam the city of Arkadia, carrying his shield and spear. He can be fought, killed and have his death confirmed as if he was a cultist. His death this way would also count towards Nation Leader killed.
