Killed In 2005's God of War

With the aid of Athena and the Blade of the Gods, Kratos defeated Ares in a long, arduous fight by dodging brutal attacks and impaling Ares with the blade. Stabbed through the chest with a weapon forged by gods, Ares finally perishes.

While he wouldn't know it for most of his life, Kratos was a demigod as he is the son of Zeus, but he would later become a full-on god, the God of War to be precise, after killing Ares. After years of serving the Greek gods, Kratos became disillusioned, and resentment towards the gods grew strong.

Kratos may be a God, but even he cannot survive a Hakai burst. Beerus is strong enough to destroy half a planet with his finger, so a full-on punch should be able to take Kratos down. If Kratos tries to use any of his godly weapons or shield, Beerus can instantly destroy them with a Ki blast.

Ares was the original God of War until Kratos managed to snatch the title from him. This was no easy feat and his boss fight is a testament to that. The battle between Ares and Kratos is the first titanic struggle between mortal and god, and it's still one of the more challenging ones today.

It seems they are pretty evenly matched in terms of strength and stamina, however it's clear Kratos has a special kind of something that the Hulk doesn't. That being his brilliant tactical mind, and his ability to adapt well under pressure in any fighting situation.

The moment Thor and Kratos clash as destroyers, Thor is significantly stronger and beats Kratos, because Thor has resigned himself to this role, where Kratos rejects it.

Surviving gods

Hoenir, Magni, Modi, Njord, Vidar, Vali, and the daughter of Sol are all stated to survive Ragnarok. All of the remaining Æsir then reunite at Ithavllir. Baldr and Hod return from the underworld - Baldr having been killed by Hod, and Hod by Vali, before Ragnarok.

Thankfully, this fate was averted in the game, and Kratos is still very much alive by the ending credits. However, Kratos actually did very briefly die during the game's opening, though he came back to life almost instantly.
