How can I pass on panel interview? ›

Your answers should be concise and provide a bit of interest such as a short anecdote, story, example, facts, or illustration. You might even think about creating a short, “Twitterable” soundbite that audiences will remember after the panel discussion is over.

Set the pace for the entire conversation.

Pause after each question and consider how you'd like to answer it. Listen carefully to all panel members, and take notes of everything that will help you make the best career decision. Ask for clarification when needed. Take your time delivering answers.

Panel interviews are often more intimidating to the candidate as they are being interviewed by multiple people.

If you have a large panel of six people, that first question could take an entire half-hour. Generally, 3-4 minutes is a sufficient length of time for a panelist to give a reasonably detailed response. Certain questions, such as opening introductions or closing remarks, may be as short as 1-2 minutes.

Q&A style. More of a popular style of panel discussion, a Q&A style panel will have the host open the discussion with a brief introduction of themselves, the panellists and the topics that will be covered. The moderator will then ask questions they've already planned for, including questions from the audience.

A good panel will include a diverse range of panelists with differing opinions, since this is the key to an interesting and stimulating panel discussion. At the end of the structured panel discussion, most moderators will leave time for an audience question and answer session too.

By the time the hiring process reaches the final round of interviews, there are usually only two or three candidates left, regardless of the seniority of the position.
