This past January 18th, 2022, the well-known Scottish player Jayson Shaw, broke the world record of 14.1 (Straight Pool) with a run of 714 balls, which constitutes finishing 51 triangles of 14 balls without error, a true feat only by scope of the most prodigious. It is, without a doubt, one of the great moments of Pocket Billiards (pool) in recent decades. In this article we tell you, not only how this spectacular record was, but also some other equally surprising ones.
World record of 14.1 (Straight Pool)
The Scottish Jayson Shaw took close to three hours of continuos play without any error: as incredible as it is true and verifiable in these times, since he did it in live streaming to the delight of all lovers of this fascinating sport.
As in previous breaks of this world record, it was something premeditated and outside the competitive field (given that it is usually disputed with a maximum of 150 balls). It was held at the renowned Academy/Club Street Light Billiards Academy in the state of Virginia, in the USA.
The Academy is located on the third floor of an office building and has more than half a dozen professional tables from the best brands on the market, including the innovative desk from the prestigious Predator, a benchmark in this industry. Like Barcelona Pool Billiards Academy, this American organization is also a official tester of these fabulous tables, reporting directly to the brand’s technical team.

One of its founders and renowned regional player of 14.1 (Straight Pool), called Bobby Chamberlain, has been organizing the Legends of Pocket Billiards for some time now with the aim of challenging the best professional players to beat the previous world record that stood at 626 balls the American specialist in this discipline John Schmidt and very prominent in other disciplines such as the 9-Ball (Nine Ball) in which in 2006 he won one of the most difficult titles to achieve: neither more nor less than the 9ball USA OPEN. The german Joshua Filler, the russian Ruslan Chinakhov and the well-known americans Earl Strickland and Shane Van Boening have tried it before at the Academy without the success that Jayson Shaw has achieved.
The one who for some is, even today, the best player of all time, Willie Mosconi, also an American, set this mark at 526 balls back in 1954, a period since which nobody, in a verifiable way, could break his mark until John Schmidt dethroned him with a plus of 100 balls in May 2019.

Over more than six decades and with the aim of breaking the mark established by Willie Mosconi, great specialists have tried to stay really close. Like the german master and champion Thomas Engert who reached 491 balls in the 90s. Other unverifiable and therefore unofficial marks have been happening for more than half a century since the deed of Willie Mosconi, specialists in the sport. such as Mike Eufemia, Arthur Cranfield and Luther Lassiter, among others, boasted in their day of having beaten the previous mark, but it could never be reliably demonstrated.

The Legends of Pocket Billiards initiative of this Academy near Washington DC has achieved its goal and, after several stays by various world-class specialists, the Scotsman Jayson Shaw has finally achieved it after achieving several runs of over 300 balls in previous attempts to his deed.
The only reproach to his feat was that he finished his series of 714 balls without failure on object balls, only the pocketing of the cue ball interrupted his stroke that could have gone further without this mishap.
Many congratulations to the Scotsman for having established a new world record, which many famous specialists previously tried to beat without success. Only time will decide if this mark will be perpetuated, as Mosconi’s figures did before, and more recently Schmidt’s. At the moment it has served him to make history and pocket the $10,000 money prize from the brand OB CUES.
