Well, that's what OnMyWay, a driving app that encourages safe drivers by paying you to not drive while distracted, is trying to accomplish.

But is OnMyWay legit? And can you actually cash out with this app?

It was founded in 2019 with the goal of preventing more accidents and injuries amongst drivers by incentivizing good behavior. According to its website, the OnMyWay app has helped prevent over 24,000 car accidents and saved 159 lives in the process.

So, this is clearly an awesome mission, and the entire goal of OnMyWay is to keep you off of your phone while you drive.

But I was also curious if you can really make money with the OnMyWay app. So, I decided to look into how it all works and how much money you can actually earn with this money-making app.

Is OnMyWay Legit?

Yes, OnMyWay is legit. You earn $0.05 for every mile you drive which can be redeemed through various rewards options. Additionally, the company has a great mission and they have prevented over 25,000 car accidents since the beginning of the app’s creation. This assertion is based on data since the company knows how many miles users have driven without distractions.

But, many negative OnMyWay reviews complain about the rewards since you can't really earn anything from this app without spending money or without inviting other people to join.

The fact you can't redeem earnings for free PayPal cash is a downside, and it takes forever to earn enough to redeem a gift card or actual reward.

This is my main complaint as well. When I tested out OnMyWay, I wasn't able to cash out any rewards since it would take 100,000+ miles of driving to ever cash out without refering people to the app.

Granted, the app does make money on autopilot and it helps keep you safe. But it's definitely not a high-paying app, and it's basically impossible to cash out with OnMyWay unless you invite a lot of people to join as well.

The OnMyWay app works in four simple steps:

1. Download the OnMyWay app and sign up
2. Drive and stay off of your phone to earn
3. Refer friends to earn even more
4. Redeem your earnings

That’s all there is to it! Each of these steps will be discussed in more detail down below.

Before you check them out, make sure you have an Android or IOS smartphone and a valid driver’s license!

1. Download The OnMyWay App & Sign Up

To download the OnMyWay App, head over to onmyway.com and enter your phone number into the text box.

After doing that, you receive a text message with a link to download the app directly through your phone. Alternatively, you can look up OnMyWay on the App Store or Google Play Store.

Once you download the app, you sign up for OnMyWay with an email, phone number, and the last four digits of your phone number.

You also scan your driver's license to verify that you have one, and fill out a few other basic pieces of information about you and your driving.

This step should take you no longer than 2 minutes to complete if you have your driver’s license nearby. I found that it was pretty easy to set up, and the app is beginner-friendly.

You can also receive a $100 sign up bonus upon entering the app that you can use towards other rewards in the future. More on that later since it's usually too good to be true.

Once you’re officially in the app, you can start earning immediately for driving safely!

2. Drive & Stay Safe

After you install the OnMyWay app and login, you have to enable notification settings along with motion activity tracking.

This is because, when you drive over 10MPH without texting or driving, OnMyWay pays you $0.05 for every mile you drive.

To prevent you from texting, the OnMyWay app locks the app and prevents your phone from texting so you can't check your phone and drive while distracted.

Phone calls are also disabled unless you can answer them with bluetooth in your car.

Music also works in your car as long as youstart and stop the music before and after you drive somewhere. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to change a song in the middle of a ride unless your car has buttons for that.

This music bit is definitely a downside for older cars or cars where you can't shuffle music with your navigation, so keep this in mind if you love your tunes.

Another nifty feature is that passengers can earn too; if you'rea passenger that also uses the OnMyWay App, you’ll earn money too as long as you’re not on your phone!

Just note: the OnMyWay app drains some battery from your phone since it has to track the motion of your vehicle.

If your car has a phone charger, this won't really be an issue, but it's another factor to keep in mind since OnMyWay drains your battery slightly.

3. Refer Friends

The truth is, the real way to make money with the OnMyWay app is to refer other drivers. You earn money for every time your friends drive safely with the OnMyWay App. Not just the first ride after signing up… every time!

You’re allowed to refer as many friends as you want and there's a $2 referral bonus for each sign up.

Additionally, every safe mile your referral drive pays you $0.02. So, if 10 friends drive 100 miles, you earn $40 ($20 for driving and $20 for sign up bonuses).

As you can see, the OnMyWay referral program is where the money is, especially if your friends drive a lot.

This is my main complaint with the app since it's incredibly difficult to cash out with OnMyWay unless you invite a lot of people. So, for everyday people, this app probably won't pay you a dime.

4. Redeem Your Earnings

The OnMyWay app pays you $0.05 for every safe mile you drive without texting or looking at your phone.

This is the set mileage rate and doesn't change if you drive more. Also note that OnMyWay only pays you for miles when you travel 10MPH or faster.

So, if you drive 100 miles, you’ve just earned yourself $5! It’s that simple. Plus, you earn even more with referrals.

When you accumulate enough money from driving and referrals, you can redeem your earnings in the following ways:

• Gift cards to companies like Amazon and DoorDash
• Cash cards
• Travel perks
• Raffles
• Discounts at various OnMyWay app sponsors

Currently, you can't withdraw OnMyWay app earnings for PayPal cash, which is a massive con.

Additionally, you need to refer 250 people to unlock cash cards, which is pretty impossible for the average user unless you run a blog, YouTube channel, or have a significant social media following.

I'm going to cover OnMyWay app rewards and if this app is a scam or not in a bit, but for now, know that it's very hard to actually get free money from using this app (more on this down below).

It's also worth noting that most gift cards are for food places you may have never heard of and the rest of the rewards are less desirable.

How To Cash Out With OnMyWay

As mentioned, you can't cash out with cash through PayPal or bank transfer with the OnMyWay app. Most redeemable rewards are given through discounts and other stuff.

Basically, it’s their way of saying that they don’t want to give you straight up cash. We can only hope that OnMyWay implements cash rewards as the platform grows.

In any case, to cash out, head over to the “OnMyWay Cash Offers” section of the app and select the reward you want to redeem.

Some rewards require a certain amount of referrals to unlock while most just require that you have enough earnings.

But, generally, OnMyWay just gets you discounts at various travel partners, hotels, and restaurants…this means you're still spending your own money and are really just saving a bit of cash by using OnMyWay.

This is a very similar reward structure to apps like Sweatcoin or Miles that looklike they pay you but in reality just let you get discounts at various app partners.

If I were you (assuming you sign up for this app), I would hold off on the redeeming section for now until they have better rewards in place.

In the meantime, you can rack up some serious cash in the hopes that they drop an Amazon gift card or PayPal transfer option (although this is highly unlikely.)

This wouldn’t be a real OnMyWay App review if we didn’t discuss some of the benefits and disadvantages of using the app!

Here is a pros and cons list to help you decide whether or not it’s worth downloading this app onto your mobile device:

I downloaded OnMyWay and tried it out for a few days to see how it works. But once I realized it's basically impossible to cash out with, I uninstalled it.

But, if you just want to make extra cash on the side, there are so many other beermoney apps or side jobs you can turn to.

Additionally, in terms of driving, things like delivering for DoorDash or trying various jobs that pay you for delivering packages let you earn actual cash for your efforts.

In short, no: the OnMyWay app isn't a scam because the app does exactly what it says and pays users for not driving while distracted. All in all, it's a good company with an awesome mission to get more safe drivers on the road.

However, the fact remains that OnMyWay rewards are bad. There's no way around it.

Yes, it's technically free money, but for most users, it's very difficult to actually benefit from them.

As mentioned, if you're looking to actually make money with your car, you're better off trying gigs like DoorDash or Instacart to make extra money on the side.

In any case, the app still incentivizes you to drive safely, and that can save you money in repair costs in itself and also keeps you safer.

Plus, I have some hope that the rewards options are going to get real good once the app starts to gain a bit more traction!

Final Thoughts

If you find yourself texting and driving and want an incentivev to drive more safely, the OnMyWay app could be for you. It helps keep you focused on driving, and you can earn a bit of extra cash on the side if you stick with the app for long enough.

However, this app barely pays, and most of the rewards are just discounts that require spending actual money to redeem them.

Personally, I'm not going to use OnMyWay since I'm more interested in side hustles that pay me with cash. But again, the main idea of this app is to help you drive more safely.

And if you drive for work or with gig apps like DoorDash or Amazon Flex, you might as well test out this passive income app to see how much you can make.
