Is it ever right to cheat on your partner? Clearly the right answer would be: “No, absolutely not!” But people do it anyway.
It’s funny how I started writing this column right after seeing the movie “Addicted,” which was about a married woman cheating on her husband because she was addicted to sex. The look alone in the husband’s eyes when he found out his wife had been cheating on him was a look you wouldn’t want to see in anyone’s eyes. You could almost feel his pain through the screen. It was terrible.
Why hurt someone that you claim to truly care about? Unless you don’t really care at all. The problem is people treat their most important relationships casually and their commitments as optional. It has reached the point where cheating almost seems so current today that the question isn’t who is cheating but who isn’t?
Cheating is not right. It never has been right and never will be right. When a person cheats on anyone, they cheat themselves. They sabotage their integrity and bring a lot consequences their way. It causes emotional breakdown that people just don’t have time for.
Cheating is almost like cuttings a corner in a race; it isn’t fair and just isn’t right. Some people cheat to get ahead. You shouldn’t lower yourself to others and cheat to get further in the world. Most people like to use cheating as an excuse. Maybe your partner wasn’t showing you as much attention as that one person at your job. Maybe your girl doesn’t laugh at your jokes like the lady at the bar. It still doesn’t give you the right to cheat.
Maybe the problem is communication. Couples don’t like communicating, and because they don’t, their silence often leads to cheating.
If you’ve ever seen the Tyler Perry movie, “Confessions of a Marriage Counselor” the main character Judith cheated on her husband because he wasn’t showing her the same attention as the guy from her job. I always thought that maybe if she sat him down and talked to him, tell him what was bothering her everything could have been resolved. Maybe she wouldn’t have cheated and caught HIV.
Don’t cheat. Don’t hurt people you care about. And if you don’t care, don’t put a person in a position to believe that you care about when you really don’t. It just gets real messy in the end, and AIN’T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!
