What the Bible Really Says About Wealth
Wealth is often a source of guilt and condemnation for Christians, both from oneself and from others. Many Christians consider wealth and the pursuit of it to be immoral. However, the Bible actually offers a nuanced perspective on wealth, challenging us to consider our relationship with material possessions and our responsibilities as stewards of God’s creation.

Scripture does not condemn wealth in itself. Abraham, Job, and Solomon are examples of God’s servants who were blessed with considerable wealth. In Genesis 13:2, Abraham is described as “very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.” Similarly, Job, despite his tribulations, is portrayed as a wealthy man with God’s favor (Job 1:1–3). Solomon’s wealth, detailed in 1 Kings 10:23, is presented as a testament to God’s blessings.
2. The Love of Money: A Root of Evil
The critical issue in the Bible is not the possession of wealth but the love of money. 1 Timothy 6:10 warns, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” This love of money leads to idolatry, replacing God with material wealth. It’s a heart issue where wealth takes precedence over God and His commandments.
