A complaint circulating widely on social media alleges that Gen Z is “aging like milk,” suggesting that individuals under 27 appear older than the preceding generation, Millennials. This notion gained traction after influencer Jordan Howlett shared his experience of being mistaken for his mother’s older brother at just 26 years old, attributing it to stress.
“I am Gen Z, and nobody ever believes me. When my mom and I walk out in public, people think that my mom is my younger sister,” Howlett said in his TikTok.

While initially dismissed as vanity, recent scientific findings have lent some credence to this theory. Research presented at an international cancer conference revealed that young people diagnosed with certain cancers exhibited signs of “accelerated aging,” with their biological age surpassing their chronological age. This phenomenon, attributed to factors such as lifestyle, diet, environment, and stress, may pose significant health risks, particularly regarding the development of deadly diseases like cancer.
Based on a report from the American Association for Cancer Research, experts speculate that successive generations, especially those born after 1965, may be at greater risk of accelerated aging and associated health issues. Notably, diagnoses of cancer and other chronic conditions among younger demographics have become increasingly common, raising concerns about the long-term health implications.
Factors contributing to this trend include dietary habits, with processed foods high in fat, sugar, and artificial additives potentially exacerbating health issues. Obesity, which has surged over the past few decades, is strongly linked to accelerated aging and various health complications, including diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Additionally, lifestyle factors such as vaping, mental health conditions, and social isolation may also contribute to premature aging. However, experts emphasize the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through balanced nutrition, regular exercise, and social engagement.
Looking ahead, researchers are exploring potential interventions, such as senolytic drugs, to slow down the aging process and mitigate age-related health risks. While there’s still much to learn about this phenomenon, these findings offer a glimmer of hope for future generations, including Gen Z, in managing their health and well-being.
