Open a terminal/command prompt, cd to the folder containing theget-pip.py file and run:

Standalone zip application¶
Note
The zip application is currently experimental. We test that pip runs correctlyin this form, but it is possible that there could be issues in some situations.We will accept bug reports in such cases, but for now the zip application shouldnot be used in production environments.
In addition to installing pip in your environment, pip is available as astandalone zip application.This can be downloaded from https://bootstrap.pypa.io/pip/pip.pyz. There arealso zip applications for specific pip versions, named pip-X.Y.Z.pyz.
The zip application can be run using any supported version of Python:
then the currently active Python interpreter will be used.
$ chmod+x./pip.pyz$ ./pip.pyz
then the currently active Python interpreter will be used.
C:> .\pip.pyz
then the currently active Python interpreter will be used.
You may need to configure your system to recognise the .pyz extensionbefore this will work.
Alternative Methods¶
Depending on how you installed Python, there might be other mechanismsavailable to you for installing pip such asusing Linux package managers.
These mechanisms are provided by redistributors of pip, who may have modifiedpip to change its behaviour. This has been a frequent source of user confusion,since it causes a mismatch between documented behaviour in this documentationand how pip works after those modifications.
If you face issues when using Python and pip installed using these mechanisms,it is recommended to request for support from the relevant provider (eg: Linuxdistro community, cloud provider support channels, etc).
Upgrading pip¶
Upgrade your pip by running:
$ python-mpipinstall--upgradepip
$ python-mpipinstall--upgradepip
C:> py -m pip install --upgrade pip
Compatibility¶
The current version of pip works on:
Windows, Linux and macOS.
CPython 3.8, 3.9, 3.10, 3.11, 3.12, and latest PyPy3.
pip is tested to work on the latest patch version of the Python interpreter,for each of the minor versions listed above. Previous patch versions aresupported on a best effort approach.
Other operating systems and Python versions are not supported by pip’smaintainers.
Users who are on unsupported platforms should be aware that if they hit issues, they may have to resolve them for themselves. If they received pip from a source which provides support for their platform, they should request pip support from that source.
TL;DR: You can install a specific version of a Python package using Pip by running the pip install <package_name>==<version> command. For example, to install version 1.3. 4 of Pandas, execute the pip install pandas==1.3. 4 command from the Terminal.
To get a list of installed packages in Python, you can use the pip command-line tool with the list command. This will show all packages installed in the current environment.
The pip command looks for the package in PyPI, resolves its dependencies, and installs everything in your current Python environment to ensure that requests will work. The pip install <package> command always looks for the latest version of the package and installs it.
pip is capable of determining and installing the dependencies of packages. The process of determining which version of a dependency to install is known as dependency resolution. This behaviour can be disabled by passing --no-deps to pip install.
How to check if pip is installed on Windows and Mac: In Command Prompt on Windows or Terminal on Mac, type and enter: pip --version . If pip version is shown then it is installed.
The output of pip --version tells you which version of pip is currently installed, and which version of Python it's set up to install packages for. This is especially helpful if you have more than one version of Python installed on your system.
Different pip packages may be installed in different places on the same system. Therefore, the best way to find the location of a package is through pip 's show command.
By default, on Linux, Pip installs packages to /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages. Using virtualenv or --user during install will change this default location. If you use pip show make sure you are using the right user or else pip may not see the packages you are referencing.
This is easy. Create an account on PYPI: Go to: https://pypi.python.org and select Register. Follow instructions. Create an account on testpypi: Go to: https://testpypi.python.org and select Register.
To install a specific version of a package using pip, use the syntax pip install package==version . For example, to install version 1.0. 0 of a package named 'sample', use pip install sample==1.0. 0 .

Open Terminal: You can find Terminal in your Applications folder under Utilities, or you can search for it using Spotlight. Check for pip: Type pip --version or pip3 --version (for Python 3) to check if pip is installed. Install a Package: Use the pip install command followed by the package name.
