Individual Values (or IVs) are a hidden set of stats that are randomly applied to each Pokemon upon receiving or capturing them. They are part of what makes each Pokemon unique from another. These stats cannot be seen by looking at any stat menu in the game, but they are sometimes roughly calculated by using special calculators around the net. The calculators aren't always accurate but the IVs will be somewhere between 0 and 31 -- 0 being the worst and 31 being the best.

In Pokemon X & Y, there's a NPC in the Pokemon Center of Kiloude City that could analyze the IV of your Pokemon, hint his overall, best and worse status.

IVs will determine how high or low a particular stat can possibly be. A Pokemon's Individual Values are best calculated when you first catch the Pokemon. The more you use a Pokemon in battle, the more Effort Values it will gain, which will alter the calculations. If you can keep track of the EVs, you will be able to accurately calculate the IVs.

IV Judge

You can find out the general area of your Pokemon's Individual Values by talking to a man in the Kiloude City Pokemon Center. This man will use specific words to tell you the range of the IVs and the best stat. He will say your Pokemon's overall potential is:

Hidden Power

The Type for the attack Hidden Power is calculated entirely on the IVs of your Pokemon. Hidden Power is a special move that can use one of the eighteen different types of a Pokemon (e.g. Grass, Electric, Dragon, etc). Not only is the type calculated by the IVs but so is the base power of the move up to 60.

If you wish to know the Type of your Pokemon's Hidden Power, you need to go to Anistar City and enter the house that is right next to the clothing store.

Breed For Better IVs

If you have a Pokemon with a good set of IVs in a particular stat, you can pass down those IVs when Breeding. All you need to do is give a special item to the parent of the Pokemon you want to pass down IVs to. The item will pass down the IV of the stat it boosts.

• Power Anklet - Speed IVs
• Destiny Knot - 5 Random IVs

However, if you give two different power items to both parents, the IV will be chosen at random for the offspring.

Pokemon Characteristics

Characteristics shown at each Pokemon's summary screen usually shows the best IV out of all their stats. However, it doesn't tell you exactly how good their best stat is. It's possible their best stat only lands a 9 in the 0-31 IV Scale! Each characteristics will be under a certain IV. For example "Proud of it's Power" is for the Attack stat and "Loves to Eat" is for the HP Stat.

• Thoroughly cunning

• Very finicky

Special Defense Characteristics

• Strong willed
• Somewhat vain
• Strongly defiant
• Hates to lose
• Somewhat stubborn

Speed Characteristics

• Likes to run
• Alert to sounds
• Impetuous and silly
• Somewhat of a clown
• Quick to flee
