Can you get ACC and pension in NZ? ›

If you're working and get injured after you turn 65

You can get NZ Super and ACC payments for 2 years if you injure yourself after turning 65, and the injury is covered by ACC. At the end of that 2 years you receive only NZ Super. Contact Ministry of Social Development if you have any questions.

Your income if you have an accident

If you have an accident that stops you from working, you can get weekly compensation from ACC and NZ Super for 2 years. At the end of that 2 years you receive only NZ Super.

From 1 April 2024, the minimum rate of weekly compensation payable is 80% of the adult minimum wage. This is a wage of $926, for a forty-hour week.

As of the age of 65, New Zealanders can receive a fortnightly payment from the government under a universal public pension scheme. The New Zealand Superannuation, also known as the NZ Super, is not income or asset tested.

Being away from New Zealand for less than 26 weeks is generally fine. You should seek advice from International Services or a pensions advisor before making decisions.

You can't take your payments with you, but you may be able to get payments from the Department for Work and Pensions in the United Kingdom. You'll need to show evidence of your time in New Zealand, and you must apply when you get there.

We'll pay up to 80% of your income as weekly compensation if you're unable to work or do your usual duties because of an injury we're covering.

In 2024, you can contribute up to $4,150 if you are covered by a high-deductible health plan just for yourself, or $8,300 if you have coverage for your family. In 2025, you can contribute up to $4,300 if you are covered by a high-deductible health plan just for yourself, or $8,550 if you have coverage for your family.

For 2024, there is a $150 increase to the contribution limit for these accounts. An employee who chooses to participate in an FSA can contribute up to $3,200 through payroll deductions during the 2024 plan year. Amounts contributed are not subject to federal income tax, Social Security tax or Medicare tax.

Pensioners living alone receive NZ Super rates of $1,038.94 per fortnight in 2024, an increase of $46.20 from the previous rate of $992.74. Pensioners who live with housemates will receive $959.02 instead of $916.36.

Can you live overseas and collect NZ pension? ›

If you get NZ Super or Veteran's Pension and plan to live overseas, you can't get these payments once you leave NZ unless you meet certain criteria. You must apply to keep these payments going. To apply, call our International Services team at least 6 weeks before you leave.

To qualify for NZ Super you need to have lived in NZ for the required number of years, from age 20. The required time is gradually increasing — from 10 to 20 years. The increase is calculated based on your date of birth and will affect you if you turn 65 between 1 July 2024 and 1 July 2042 .

If an employee is at work while they're recovering, they may do different tasks or hours compared to their usual role. Your injured employee can receive income from both you and us at the same time, which could mean they get up to 100% of their usual weekly earnings. This is called abatement.
