Note:As of March 2024, Microsoft will no longer support Authenticator App versions greater than one year old. If your application has not been updated in over one year, after March 2024 your app may still continue to operate without issue, but Microsoft will no longer continue maintenance or support of those app versions. By continuing to use an older application version, your app is susceptible to malfunction and may cause issues completing authentications. Get the latest version.
The authenticator app is a secure and convenient way to prove who you are.
You can use the Authenticator app as a way to sign in if you forget your password.
You can use the app to back up and restore all your other account credentials.
SelectSettings>Backupand then turn onCloudoriCloud backup.
To recover your information:
Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device and selectBegin recovery.
Sign in to your recovery account using the personal Microsoft account you used during the backup process. Your account credentials are recovered to the new device.
Go to your personal Microsoft account sign-in page, and then instead of typing your password, select the Use the Microsoft Authenticator app instead link. Microsoft sends a notification to your phone. Approve the notification.
The authenticator app asks for a verification code as a test. From the Microsoft Authenticator app, scroll down to your work or school account, copy and paste the 6-digit code from the app into the Step 2: Enter the verification code from the mobile app box on your computer, and then select Verify.
On the device you are attempting to login from, a prompt will come up to “Approve sign in request”. You will then need to open your Microsoft Authenticator app on your device and enter the number shown to sign in. Enter the number in the “Enter number here” box provided on your device.
If Microsoft Authenticator isn't working, make sure notifications are on, your connection is stable, and the app has access to your location. If Authenticator stopped working when you switched to a new phone, you'll need to restore from a backup.
The Microsoft Authenticator app requires an internet connection to send verification codes. Check if the app has the necessary permissions to send notifications. On your mobile device, go to Settings > Apps > Microsoft Authenticator > Permissions, and ensure that the app has permission to send notifications.
