How do eBay sellers ship large items? ›

Sellers can find their own carrier to ship large items on eBay or partner with a third-party shipping solutions provider (3PL) to streamline searching for the right carrier and get lower rates. This gives you more control over seeking affordable, efficient shipping solutions rather than settling for generic options.

USPS Priority Mail is the cheapest way to ship a large package. To obtain the lowest rate you must use USPS Priority Mail branded packaging. If you need faster delivery, both UPS Simple Rate and FedEx One Rate give you more choices.

Large package

You can only send packages with length plus girth between 130 inches and 165 inches through UPS. For large UPS packages, you might need to enter dimensions to calculate costs correctly. To help you determine that a package is within UPS limits, a 130-inch chain is available by calling 1-800-PICK-UPS.

FedEx. To ship items weighing over 70 but less than 150 lbs, you can use FedEx Ground. Heavy items require a safety label which you can get directly from FedEx. To ship items that are over 150 lbs, you can use FedEx Freight, which we talked about in the previous section.

Generally, UPS works out cheaper for shipping large items, while USPS is cheaper for sending small items. If you're looking for a price for ground shipping in the US and your parcel is no more than 66lbs, a good choice is UPS Ground.

DX Freight offers the cheapest heavy item courier service for items up to 500kg, including pallet deliveries. This is a collected service, so a DX courier will collect from your home or work address and deliver your heavy parcel the very next day.

There is a setting in shipping preferences where a seller can pass on eBay label shipping discounts to buyers. The current default is set to not have it set to the discount cost but retail cost. In may the default goes to pass the discount to buyers.

Package dimensions will affect the cost of your eBay label only if the box has (1) length over 22 inches; and/or (2) volume over 1 cubic foot (i.e., 1728 cubic inches). Below those thresholds, the dimensions don't matter so don't worry about exact inches.

If a buyer is purchasing multiple items from you, and they haven't already benefited from a shipping discount, they can select Request total from seller in their shopping cart. You can then send them an invoice with the new combined costs if you have combined invoices enabled on your account.
