It’s easy to get caught up in crime when navigating the Settled Systems, whether it be a sneaky pickpocket gone wrong, smuggled goods found in your possession, or as simple as an NPC finding themselves at the end of an accidental miss fire of your weapon. Whatever the reason may be, the chances are you’ve now likely got a bounty on your head, and Starfield doesn’t exactly explain how to clear this.
Thankfully, we’ve got you covered in our quick and comprehensive guide to removing bounties in Starfield.

How to Remove and Clear Bounties in Starfield
To remove a bounty with anyone in the Settled Systems, you must first visit a Trackers Alliance Self-Service Bounty Clearance Kiosk, which is a white and red colored Kiosk found throughout Cilivian Outposts and in Spaceport Bars such as the Astral Lounge on Neon, the Broken Spear in Cydonia, or the Viewport in New Atlantis.
Import Note: Before you can clear a bounty, you must ensure you’re using a Kiosk that’s located in an unrelated Faction. For example, should you attempt to clear a United Colonies bounty from a New Atlantis Kiosk, you will receive a message saying local regulations prevent Trackers Alliance from offering this service within United Colonies space.
Once you have found a Self-Service Bounty Clearance Kiosk, select the bounty you wish to clear. Here, you’ll find a breakdown of your offenses, including your current bounty total and the cost to clear any outstanding criminal record.
After paying off your bounties, you’ll be free to roam the faction space once again.

Crime System Explained - What Will Earn You a Bounty or Jail Time
As you might expect, there are quite a few actions that can land you in some heated trouble; these include:
- Murder or assault of a friendly person.
- Trespassing on owned property
- Pickpocketing (Only when resisting to give back stolen property)
- Hacking into owned objects
Conducting any of these actions will result in you earning a bounty, possible jail time, and a slew of heavily armed guards and citizens chasing you down.
Should you evade trouble but return to the Faction space without paying off your bounty, don’t be surprised if you’re approached by guards. Here, you can opt to pay a fine or have them accompany you to jail. Jail time will occur should you resist arrest or cannot afford any given fines. Unfortunately, jail time will result in XP loss and all stolen goods removed from your inventory.
