How can I manually stop and start the Symantec Endpoint Protection when those options are greyed out and not available on the local client through the Windows service manager.
To stop the Symantec Endpoint Protection service manually from the Windows follow the below steps:
Click Start
Click Run
Type smc -stop
Note: The Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) GUI interface should be closed before stopping the Symantec Endpoint Protection service.

you are best of using the "Smc -stop" command from "Run Command" option. this will stop the SEP client from running completely. once you are done with the troubleshooting again put the same command with slight difference "SMC start" in run command. This will let you to quickly enable/disable SEP.
