In support of Winning Answers to 500 Interview Questions, here is how to approach the following question on an interview: What are your best skills?
Why this question is being asked: Weighing the skills that you bring to the table is an important part of the decision making process for the interviewer.
Strategy: Focus on the skills that would be most appropriate for the job for which you are interviewing. You don’t want to simply name your skills as if you are writing a grocery list. Instead, take this opportunity to explain your proficiency in utilizing each skill on the job.
Sample answer: I am a great communicator. I can present my ideas well in-person, in writing and through social media. I’ve worked hard to sharpen those skills because I feel that the value of a great idea is lost if I can’t present it in a way that others can understand.
I am a real team player. There is no room for a “me first” attitude in the workplace and we all have to work together in order to meet objectives. Once I’ve completed my work, I’ll walk around my department and ask my co-workers if there is anything I can do to help contribute.

Thank you so much! I really froze at this question last time around and been searching since. I am not accustomed to talking about myself in this regard so the interview went bad. I like to produce results and in most cases this comes out naturally so some people have a difficult time answering such question.

Pres Winslow and Svend Haugaard, thanks for explaining and sharing some great points with us. I also believe that prior to having an interview with an employer one should practice and conduct a mock interview. This is very helpful when you want to know what you would need to improve on. I had one done with my professor and it was worth it. It prepared me to answer questions that was relevant towards the position and not talk about something else that had no importance in the matter. So, in my opinion having several mock interviews with someone is an excellent practice. It will also make you feel confident and not be so nervous when the real interview takes place.
