SMS Passcode is a multi-factor authentication (MFA) method that sends a code to your phone via SMS. However, this method may not be very secure if your phone displays the SMS preview on the lock screen, which can be seen by anyone nearby. This can compromise your account security.
We strongly recommend you disable the SMS preview on your phone’s lock screen. This way, you will still receive a notification that you have a new SMS, but you will not see the content of the message until you unlock your phone.
The steps to disable SMS preview on the lock screen may vary depending on your phone model and operating system. Here are the general steps for Android and iOS devices:
Android
- Open the Settings app on your phone.
- Tap Notifications or Apps & notifications.
- Tap Messages or your default SMS app.
- Tap Notifications again if needed.
- Tap Notifications on lock screen or On lock screen.
- Choose Don’t show notifications, Don’t show notifications at all, or Hide sensitive notification content.
iOS
- Open the Settings app on your phone.
- Tap Notifications.
- Tap Messages or your default SMS app.
- Tap Show Previews.
- Choose Off or When Unlocked.
Note that the preceding instructions are general and may not apply to every phone. To find the proper instructions for your phone, you can try the following tips:
- Check your phone’s manual or user guide for information on how to customize notifications and lock screen settings.
- Search online for your phone model and operating system version, followed by keywords like “disable SMS preview” or “hide message content”.
- Contact your phone’s manufacturer or service provider for technical support.
