This page shows you how to connect a Nintendo Switch console to a TV. Keep in mind, only the regular Nintendo Switch model and Nintendo Switch OLED come with a dock (shown below) and are meant to connect to a TV. The Nintendo Switch Lite model is not intended to be connected to a monitor or TV.
The best practice to set up a Nintendo Switch to a TV is to use the official Nintendo Switch dock and cables that come with the system. You can use third-party equipment, but there is always a risk that this could harm your system.
Place the Nintendo Switch into the dock, as shown in the picture below. The screen of the Nintendo Switch should be facing the thinner side of the dock with the logo on it. The back of the system should be facing the side of the back cover.

The Nintendo Switch Dock has a port in the back under the main flap for an HDMI and a USB-C power cable. Cables for both of these ports should have also been included in the Switch's packaging and you'll want to have both plugged in.
HDMI is the current standard video cable so most somewhat modern TVs have one. The cable itself is the same on both ends, so plug one into the Switch and the other into one of the HDMI ports on your TV.
Make note of which port it is, and then navigate to that input using the source on your tv remote. While your Nintendo Switch console is in the dock, turn your Switch on using the power button, or by holding the house-shaped home button on a controller. This should lead to the image on the Switch appearing on the TV.
If you don't have a HDMI port on your TV you may need to purchase an adapter or a new television.
