A proxy server is an intermediary between your computer and the internet, often used to hide your real location and allow you to access websites that would otherwise be blocked. However, not all proxies offer the same privacy protections as a VPN. When you’re using ExpressVPN, you don’t need to run an additional proxy.
If you’re having trouble connecting to the internet, it’s possible that you are using a proxy server.
Note:The steps below will not help you access online streaming services. If you’re unable to access a service because a VPN or proxy is detected, please contact the ExpressVPN Support Team for immediate assistance.

To test a proxy connection, regardless of the tool you are using, send a request or visit a website that returns your IP address and additional information. If the returned information differs from your actual device and location data, proxy verification is successful.
If you want to change your IP and use an anonymous proxy server, it's best to keep it on.If not, then it should always be off. Routing your web traffic through a proxy server may increase data usage and an overall drop in internet speeds.
