How Much Money Do You Need to Travel Full-Time? Here’s a Breakdown (2)

Man, traveling full-time sounds amazing. How much does that cost?

That’s the reply I usually get when I tell people about my digital nomad lifestyle.

Most aspiring travelers and remote workers wonder about the financial implications of traveling full-time. As such, they ask themselves whether the lifestyle would be viable with their current finances.

In short, people want to know whether they can afford to travel the whole year.

Well, there is good news. Traveling full-time is a lot more affordable than you might think.

If you live in an expensive region like North America or Western Europe — and work remotely, you can use geo-arbitrage to your advantage. Even if you travel to high-income countries, you can still make the lifestyle work by living on a budget.

In this context, the most crucial aspect of planning your finances as a future nomad is to have the right expectations. And those concern two aspects:

  • your lifestyle as a remote worker; and
  • the actual cost of living.
