With a vast library of TV shows, movies, and original programming, most people would agree that Netflix is an essential part of the entertainment landscape and easily one of the best streaming services you can sign up for. Like its competitors, the price of Netflix varies depending on which subscription tier and features you choose.
Netflix pricing starts at $7 a month, but following the latest Netflix price hike in October, to get the best video quality without ads you have to pay $23 a month. And due to Netflix's recent crackdown on password sharing in the US, it now costs an additional $8 a month to add an extra user to your account. The fee will only apply to users who live outside of an account holder's household.
To help you decide which Netflix plan is right you, we've put together a guide detailing how much Netflix charges for each of its membership tiers.
How much Netflix costs per month
Netflix currently offers three streaming plans: Standard with Ads, Standard, and Premium, ranging from $7 to $23 a month.
It also costs more to add another user to a subscription plan. Standard and Premium subscriptions are the only plans that offer extra member additions. Standard allows one extra member slot for $8 a month. Premium offers up to two extra members slots for $8 each per month.
Here's a breakdown of Netflix prices for each plan.
Subscription plan | Monthly price | With $7.99 monthly charge for an extra member | Streaming quality | Simultaneous streams | Access to content |
Standard with Ads | $6.99 | N/A | Video quality up to 1080p/Full HD | Two | Due to licensing restrictions some titles are inaccessible |
Standard | $15.49 | $23.48 for one extra member | Video quality up to 1080p/Full HD | Two | Every Netflix title |
Premium | $22.99 | $30.98 for one extra member $38.97 for two extra members | 4K Ultra HD and HDR | Four | Every Netflix title |
While the lowest tier, Standard with Ads, does not allow you to download movies and shows to your device for times when you don't have internet, the remaining plans let you download content. The Standard plan allows you to download to two devices, and the Premium plan lets you download to six.
