How much are Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia getting paid for Saturday’s super middleweight bout (2024)

Canelo Alvarez defends his undisputed super middleweight crown on Saturday, May 4 opposite Jaime Munguia in a 12-round bout. The fight is set to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. On the line will be Canelo’s WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring super middleweight titles.

Arguably the brightest star in boxing today, Canelo has captured multiple world championships in four different weight classes. Alvarez achieved undisputed status at 168 pounds with a TKO win over Caleb Plant back in 2021. Since then he’s retained the titles with three consecutive victories.

Munguia comes in with 43 professional wins and zero losses at just the age of 27. He now gets his long awaited world title opportunity. This will be his second fight of the year, as in January he stopped John Ryder to secure a late TKO win.

Canelo is a -500 favorite to win. Munguia is a +360 underdog, with the favored method of victory being Canelo to win by decision (-105), according to DraftKings Sportsbook.

Ahead of this weekend’s fight, let’s dive into what payouts could be for this one.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia purse for Saturday’s super middleweight bout

While official numbers are difficult to come by, we have a few unofficial reports to gauge exactly how much these two will earn. For starters, Canelo’s three-fight deal with Premier Boxing Champions last June fell through, but he resigned a one-fight contract for this bout.

Per Sportskeeda, Canelo is set to earn an estimated $35 million for this Saturday’s clash against Munguia. The highest purse amount Canelo has received was against Caleb Plant ($40 million) and his third bout against Gennadiy Golovkin ($45 million), according to Sportingnews.

An official number for Munguia is unknown at this time, but it was reported he earned $800,000 for his fight against Ryder in January. His biggest purse came in 2022 against Jimmy Kelly, earning $2 million. Given Charlo made close to $1 million last September opposite Canelo, per Sportingnews, Munguia is due a huge payout and will be taking home the biggest purse of his career.

Since this bout will be streamed on both DAZN and PBC, it’s also unclear how accurate the Pay-Per-View splits are. However, with all the pre-fight drama between Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo brewing, this fight is bound to be electric.
