This 1-minute phone hack changed my life.Grayscale Mode:We all need to fight back against the phone addiction that is destroying our attention and focus.Grayscale Mode removes the colors to make your phone immediately less appealing and addicting. If you have an iPhone, follow these steps:• Settings• Accessibility• Display & Text Size• Color Filters -> On• GrayscaleIf you want to be able to toggle it on and off easily, you can create a simple shortcut:• Settings• Accessibility• Accessibility Shortcut• Color FiltersIf you triple-click the side button, you'll be able to toggle Grayscale on and off.For non-iPhone users...Grayscale Mode on Google Pixel:• Settings• Accessibility• Color & Motion• Color Correction• GrayscaleGrayscale Mode on Samsung Galaxy:• Settings• Accessibility• Visibility Enhancements• Color Correction• GrayscaleSince starting to use Grayscale Mode in January, I've seen my screen time drop and my focus rise.A side benefit for parents: Your phone is immediately less interesting and addicting for your kids. I was shocked by how my son was naturally drawn to our screens from just a few months old. When I turn on Grayscale Mode, he loses interest.Try it for a day. It's a massive life hack you won't regret.***Follow me Sahil Bloom for more in future and share this post with others!

Interesting as I don't personally have much issue with my phone... but I can see how this take the appeal away!

Speaking as a former psych therapist, this grey icons strategy makes zero sense. Grey icons makes it harder to find what you need. Like anyone really needs that? It makes more sense to MOVE all your icons that are not urgent to a second or third screen, where you need to swipe to see it.Real addiction is the user constantly being reminded they are missing something important. SOUNDS! Notifications! Here is how to hobble your addiction. The key trigger for user addiction is NOTIFICATIONS. So, I just shut off my phone at times when I do not want ANY interruptions. And I get things done.In addition... I permanently turn off or SILENCE notifications. I do not need to know when Winn Dixe, Home Depot or Office Max is having a sale, because everyone these days are always having a sale.A SILENT PHONE is your success to killing your overuse habit.Your phone is a tool... and... if you have too much time on your hands where you are constantly playing with the device... then find something else productive to do. The onus falls on you to take charge.

I have tried dozens of different hacks.. they all work for some days, but in the end you will get used to the grayscale and adapt your addiction to it… :)

I wish they had a filter that just turned down color saturation. The thing that makes the difference is insuring the phone screen is less saturated and bright than the real world. Grayscale accomplishes that, but having a little bit of color would still be nice.

Switch to #greyscalemode for better performence, Sahil Bloom said it right, proven #scientificresearch suggest that grayscale mode can improve performance on a variety of tasks; A game-changer for driven go-getters. What fascinates me is that the more the vivid the colour, the less creative I become. Here are some specific examples of scientific studies that have found that vivid colors can make people less creative:A study by Chamorro-Premuzic and Furnham (2003) found that participants who were exposed to vivid colors produced fewer and less original ideas on a creativity task than participants who were exposed to grayscale colors.A study by Zhu et al. (2016) found that participants who were exposed to vivid colors were more likely to conform to social norms and to think less critically than participants who were exposed to grayscale colors.A study by Yilmaz et al. (2018) found that participants who were exposed to vivid colors were more likely to engage in surface-level thinking and to be less likely to engage in deep thinking than participants who were exposed to grayscale colors.#CriticalThinkers are born in silence rather than vividness and plentifulness.

I am so glad I use my smart phone just like a phone and not an entertainment center. To point when I am out on calls or at doctor's appointments I pack a sales or negotiation book to read. I want to grow my brain not drain it.

This simple story changed the way I think about happiness:(everyone should read this!)A teacher asked her students to write their names on a balloon and release them in her classroom.Thirty balloons jumbled around in the air.She then gave the students one minute to find the balloon that had their name on it. After a minute passed, none were able to find their balloon. The teacher then asked the students to take the first balloon they found and give it to the person whose name was on it.Within seconds, everyone had their balloon. The teacher then explained:These balloons represent your happiness.Focus on your own happiness, and you may never find it. Focus on helping others find their happiness, and you will find yours as well. You are never going to find happiness if you focus on yourself. No amount of nice things you buy will ever bring that lasting feeling of contentment.Durable, lasting happiness and fulfillment comes from acting in service of others—on a micro family level, community level, or global level.📌 To learn more science-backed systems to improve your life, join thousands who have preordered my first book: https://lnkd.in/eEvFnNr3Enjoy this? ♻ Repost to help your network and follow Sahil Bloom for more.

One of my most strongly held beliefs:Delayed gratification is the key to life…Everything you want in life is on the other side of something that sucks. That suck might be 100 workouts. That suck might be 100 bland meals. That suck might be 100 hours of focused work. The best things in life require upfront pain.Embrace the suck.📌 To learn more science-backed systems to improve your life, join thousands who have preordered my first book: https://lnkd.in/eTi7b-RNEnjoy this? ♻ Repost to help your network and follow Sahil Bloom for more.

A powerful lesson everyone needs to hear...The goals are the checkpoint, not the destination:It's easy to view every goal you set as a finish line, but that's missing the bigger picture.Life is a long, long game, and these goals are simply checkpoints along the way. When you embrace that checkpoint mentality, missed goals can be a blessing, rather than a curse. The learnings and insights derived from a loss are far more robust than what we take from a win. They provide real-time course correction that may propel us forward faster than we ever imagined.Sometimes missing a goal is the best thing that ever happened to you.Remember: It's just a checkpoint, not the destination.📌 To learn more science-backed systems to improve your life, join thousands who have preordered my first book: https://lnkd.in/efUWCNW9Enjoy this? ♻ Repost to help your network and follow Sahil Bloom for more.

A life lesson it took me 33 years to learn...No matter what happens, run YOUR race.In every "race" of life, it's tempting to look around and compare yourself to the other racers. It's easy to measure yourself according to what they're doing, to start running against others, to start changing your strategy in real time. But in life, the only race that matters isYOUR race.Your only competitor is yourself.Always, always run your race.📌 To learn more science-backed systems to improve your life, join thousands who have preordered my first book: https://lnkd.in/eGhQwaRCEnjoy this? ♻ Repost to help your network and follow Sahil Bloom for more.

This quote reminded me of my favorite concept:Luck Surface Area...The luckiest people have a massive luck surface area. They expose themselves to more luck than the average human.A few of my favorite simple luck surface area expanding actions:Send one cold email or DM per day. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.Spend more time around optimists. Pessimists sound smart, optimists tend to get lucky.Share your thoughts publicly. Write and share, build and share.Build free time and boredom into your schedule. Free time is where your thoughts and ideas mingle. When you have free time, you have the headspace and bandwidth to take on potential non-linear opportunities. When choosing between two paths, choose the path that has a larger luck surface area.Because no one ever found their dance partner by standing up against the wall...📌 To learn more science-backed systems to improve your life, join thousands who have preordered my first book: https://lnkd.in/eGhQwaRCEnjoy this? ♻ Repost to help your network and follow Sahil Bloom for more.

This idea changed my life (and may change yours)...The Law of Reversed Effort:In a Zen parable that I love, a martial arts student approaches his teacher and asks, "How long will it take me to master this craft?"The teacher replies, "10 years."The student, looking impatient, responds, "I want to master it faster than that. I will work harder than anyone else. I will push myself to practice for many hours every single day. How long will it take then?"The teacher considers this new information and answers, "20 years."This story brings to life a concept called the Law of Reversed Effort, coined by author Aldous Huxley:"The harder we try with the conscious will to do something, the less we shall succeed."It's easy to find examples from your own life where this concept rings true:When you press to try to complete a creative task, you become less creative. When you actively push to try to find the perfect partner, you rarely find that person. When you try to force yourself to fall asleep, you stare at the ceiling awake.Elite sprinters follow something called the 85% rule:They try to run at 85% intensity because it keeps them loose, fluid, and effortless. When they try to run at 100% intensity, their body tenses up and they slow down.Carl Lewis won 9 Olympic golds with this 85% approach. The lesson: When you adopt a mindset of balanced effort, you achieve greater heights.Life is not about pushing to the max at all times—this is a recipe for bad results.Balance your effort, learn to flow in everything you do.If you find that headspace, you will thrive.📌 To learn more science-backed systems to improve your life, join thousands who have preordered my first book: https://lnkd.in/eGhQwaRCEnjoy this? ♻ Repost to help your network and follow Sahil Bloom for more.
