how does ping affect mining? (2024)

isn't mining just like how much mining fortune, excess gemstone/mithril powder and a good hotm tree?

proper confused because I keep seeing ping be brought up and affecting mining profits

ping effectively slows how you mine blocks, unless you counter it

For non fuel pickaxe
Lets assume
it takes 3 sec to break a block (a mithril block in case of hypixel)
so a player with 20ms ping will start breaking block on their side and sends break this block command to the server within 20 milli second and server also accepts and change the mithril into bedrock. all this process happens within 3 sec + (20 milli second)
Now for a user with 300 ms ping.
The same mithril block will need 3sec + 300milli second to break and send response to user.
So the 300 milli second will now apply to overall mining speed.
Now It will act like the block hasnot been broke yet for 300ms users but on server side block will already have been broken before 300millisecond.
So human brain will take more second to change their cursor from one block to another block because of this.
So profit per hour will be decreased by 300 sec for every 3 sec.

This ping thing affects more mining profits if used drills. cause the drills uses fuels. and fuel will decrease only after you break a block. But since you are already running 300ms behind from the actual reality of server it will take another 300ms to remove fuel from a drill so the profit is again reduced more 300ms for every 3 sec for drill users.

Also server needs some data from client inorder to give responce for every movement a player do. This is process will again take 300milli second time to (send receive process) so overall you will be running 1-2 sec away from actual reality of hypixel as compared to 20ms ping users.

So TLDR: If you arenot efficient while mining you will be making way less than the actual profit. That is why the ping thing always comes while talking about mining in a multiplayer server.

Incorrect. When you break a block, the client removes it from the world. If this is cancelled or otherwise not acknowledged by the server, the client replaces the block. You can mine as quickly as you want and if you have lag, all you'll see is blocks being temporarily actually mined as per default behaviour (becoming air) and the delay comes in setting that block to bedrock. So ping doesn't affect mining speed.

Skyblock has custom mining system, so it doesn't work like this for sb
