Now – these instructions are general instructions – every washing machine is constructed differently and what works for one may not work the same in another. Step 1 – You will probably need pliers, a wire hanger, a screw driver and a magnet.
Step 2 – Unplug the washing machine.
Step 3 – Check to see if your washing machine has a coin trap. Some do and some do not. You can check with your washing machine’s literature or the manufacturer (or Google it). If there is a coin trap, you may be able to just open that and find your coins in there.
Step 4 – You may have to remove the front panel of your washing machine to remove the coin if it has lodged itself inside your machine.
Step 5 – You may also have to lift the front of your washing machine and tilt it backwards with the hopes that any coins stuck in there will slide out from the back and onto the floor.
Where Is The Coin Trap On A Washing Machine?
Do you know where the coin trap is on your washing machine? If you don’t, then it’s time to find out. The coin trap is a small round opening located at the bottom of your washing machine tub. The purpose of this device is to prevent coins from entering the pipes and causing clogs.
Normally, the coin trap is hidden behind a panel at the very bottom of your washing machine. If you are unable to locate it on your own, check with your owner’s manual or contact the manufacturer or dealer to help you.
Can Coins Damage A Washing Machine?
Yes, they certainly can. Coppers, keys and other metal objects can damage the inner drum and outer tub of your washing machine. In fact, leaving coins in your pocket can cause a leaky washer as well as damaged clothes.
What NOT To Put In Your Washing Machine
There are some items (other than coins) that we recommend that you avoid putting in your washing machine.
- Oversized items like thick, large comforters
- Items made from wool, velvet or cashmere
- Anything that’s flammable
- Wired bras
- Items covered in pet hair (remove the pet hair first)
- Foam pillows
- Delicate items such as lace or embroidered products
