How do I find total stock market capitalization (value)? (2024)

Bloomberg (available in the Business Library):

For market capitalization by countries: Type ALLX WCAU into the command line and hit <GO> (e.g. ALLX WCAU <GO>) to see a listing of market cap by country.
For indices: Type WEI into the command line and hit <GO>to see a list of indices by region. Select an index and type DES in the command line and hit <GO>. See the Market Cap field under the Index Information heading.
For current market capitalization for a company: In the command line type a ticker symbol, hit the <Equity>key, type DES, and hit <GO> (e.g. AAPL US <Equity> DES <GO>). See the Market Cap under the Price Chart heading.
For historical market capitalization for a company:In the command line type a ticker symbol, hit the <Equity>key, type FA, and hit <GO> (e.g. AAPL US <Equity> FA <GO>). See Market Capitalization at the top of the table. Use the arrow keys at the bottom of the screen to scroll back in time.

Capital IQ (available in the Business Library):

For market capitalization by geography: Hover over Markets in the top navigation menu and select Geographies. See the Capital IQ Stats table for market cap by geography including United States, Canada, Europe, Asia/Pacific, Africa/Middle East, and Latin America Caribbean.
For indices: Search for an index to display its profile. In the index profile,see the Tearsheet section. The current index market cap will be in the Index Values table.
For companies: Search for a company to display its profile. In the company profile, select Key Stats from the menu on the left. On the Key Stats page, see the Current Capitalization table for the current market cap. There is also a link to View Historical Capitalization in the table heading.

Pitchbook:For current and yearly market capitalization for a company, search for a company to view its profile. Market cap can be found in the highlights section of the company profile.

Mergent Online: For current market capitalization for a company, use the Company Search box to find a company and view its company profile. Market cap can be found in the banner at the top of the company profile.
