Focus on building walls around your Town Hall and other defense weapons to protect it. If you leave any gaps in your walls, enemy troops will walk through the broken area. Don't place all of your defenses and resources inside your walls.

Build a wall to protect the village from a future raid by constructing a city wall and add at least two watch towers and a gate.

A solid strategy is to wall off the perimeter of the village using a strong block, such as cobblestone or wood. As there are no ways for raiders to destroy solid blocks, they will not be able to penetrate the wall, and will, therefore, be stuck attempting to pathfind around it.

If the only goal is to keep the villagers safe (or as a temporary measure until walls are built), wait until the villagers have gone indoors (in centrally-located buildings), then place blocks or fence gates outside doors to barricade all the villagers inside their houses.

Once all of the villagers run into their houses, find all of the villagers that you need or find important. Then, cover their doors with cobble, and start the raid. The pillagers cannot break cobble, so they won't be able to kill the villager(s) inside of the house.
